New Bar Code Reader


The new bar code reader, 3800G, replaces the older bar code reader, 3800LR, and compatible with the products listed in this document.
See the “Configuration Matrix” on Page 8 to locate the information for your system.

New 3800G Bar Code Reader The part number for the 3800G reader is SP7H5399.
See the “Configuration Matrix” on Page 8 for specific information about cables.
The adapter, 7H5517, allows the PS2 cables to interface with the USB port of the
8810.

Replacements

Section 2: Replacements

Replacing the Cable or the Bar Code Reader


[1] Review:
• “Configuration Matrix” on Page 8
• “Diagrams” on Page 12
[2] Obtain the new bar code reader cable, adapter, or bar code reader.
[3] Obtain a standard size paper clip.
[4] De-energize the system using the correct shutdown procedure.
Cable [5] Remove the existing bar code reader cable from the connection port on the
Release system.
Area [6] On the side of the existing reader, locate the cable release area.

Note
The cable release area is through the small hole.
[7] Straighten the end of the paper clip.
[8] Insert the end of the paper clip through the hole into the cable release area.

[9] With the paper clip in place, remove the cable.
[10] Remove the paper clip.
[11] Connect the new cable to the new reader.

Note
The cable connector inserts into the reader in only one direction.
[12] Check that the cable is seated into the reader securely.
[13] Energize the system.
[14] Complete the installation and configuration using the correct procedure for
your system—see “Configuration Matrix” on Page 8.

Important
You must use the reader to scan the bar codes in this Service Guide.

[7] Reboot the computer—the bar code reader is now operational.
[8] Use the reader to scan the following bar codes. If the barcode reader is not operational, complete the following steps:
a. Exit to the desktop.
b. Go to C:\Services.
c. Launch the CR500firstBoot.bat.
