SPECIFICATION

INTERPRETATION OF CAD MASTER MODELS

1. SCOPE

1.1 Scope. This specification provides general information for the

interpretation of Computer Aided Design (CAD) master models including
definitions, explanation of terms, and other general information.

1.2 Classification. This specification contains the following

class(es). Unless otherwise specified, the requirements herein apply to all
classes.

CLASS A: Cancelled. Use CLASS B

CLASS B: Interpretation of Master Model
CLASS C: Cancelled
CLASS D: Cancelled

1.3 Definitions. For the purpose of this specification, the following

definitions shall apply:

Master Model - An NX part file that provides product definition

information for an item in digital format. A master model may be used
for manufacture, inspection, and procurement of an item, but is not
limited to that purpose.

Model Value - The numerical value derived by interrogating the model that
quantifies the form and spatial relationships of the geometry composing a
design model or assembly of models to the precision (number of decimal
places) of the computer system.

NX - A CAD software product created by Siemens/PLM. NX was formerly

named Unigraphics.

Product Definition Data - Data elements required to completely define the

product.

Resolved Dimension - A model value that is rounded off to the number of

decimal places required for the design.

2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS

This section is not applicable.

3. REQUIREMENTS

3.1 General. Complete product definition data for an item consists of a

master model and corresponding drawing. The drawing specifies the CAD master
model identification number and the version corresponding to a specific part
or assembly identification number. Item characteristics, i.e., product
definition, may be defined by the master model, the corresponding drawing, or
by both.

3.1.1 Master Model. Unless otherwise specified on the master model data
sheet, the master model provides a complete definition of the part geometry.

3.1.2 Scale. The master model is 1/1 scale.

3.1.3 Units. Unless otherwise specified, the master model is in decimal

inch units.

3.1.4 Dimensions. The master model dimensional condition is as shown in

Table I. Master model resolved dimensions are in accordance with 3.1.7.

P1TF85–S5

*3.1.5 Conflict and Discrepancy Reporting. The master model and the
corresponding drawing are equal, i.e., there is no order-of-precedence rule
that can resolve a conflict or discrepancy. Any conflict or discrepancy
identified between product definition data defined by both the master model
and the corresponding drawing shall be reported to the Purchaser. All
products shipped to Purchaser shall meet the Product Definition Data
characteristic requirements..

3.1.6 Data Related to Surface Coatings and Processes. The drawing

corresponding to the master model specifies whether the dimensions apply
before or after the application of the surface coating or the completion of
the process. The master model data sheet specifies the condition that the
master model represents, e.g., before coating, after coating.

3.1.7 Master Model Resolved Dimensions. The master model resolved

dimension is the model value rounded to the same number of decimal places as
the corresponding drawing dimension. The resolved dimension rounding
requirements shall comply with the rounding rules specified in Table II.

4. NOTES

4.1 Purpose. This section contains information of a general nature,

which may be helpful, but is not mandatory. It does not contain any
requirements.

4.2 Intended Use. This document is intended to provide interpretation

of CAD master models using the same computer application used to develop the
master model. This document does not apply to converted or translated master
models.

4.3 Internal to GE Aviation Data Users. All master model data is

available to internal users through the product lifecycle management system.

4.4 External to GE Aviation Data Users. All requests for master model
data shall be directed to the Purchaser’s appropriate Sourcing organization.
