MPA STUDENTS INTO AN ADVANCED PRACTICE APPLICATION.

PRACTICUM
GUIDELINES
The student fulfills 80 hours of
service at the assigned government
agency. The scheduled practicum
hours are mutually agreed upon by
the agency supervisor and the
student with the approval of the
dean. It is strongly recommended
that the students do not use their
work agency as a practicum site to
avoid any conflict or role confusion.

ATTENDANCE
The student is to arrive in the practicum site
in sufficient time to prepare for the day's
activities and is expected to remain in the
practicum site without permission from the
agency supervisor. In cases where the
student may be absent due to illness or an
emergency, the student should inform the
agency supervisor and the practicum adviser.
Make-up hours may be arranged with the
agency supervisor practicum adviser.

EVALUATI ON
An evaluation of the student by the agency
supervisor is required at the end of the
practicum. The agency supervisor provides a
summary evaluation of the student's
performance at the end of the practicum.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS
AND ROLES/
RESPONSIBILITIES

Agency supervisors have unique opportunity to share their


knowledge, skills and attitudes with the students who have limited
experience in public service and administration. They are the
experts who have the chance to facilitate student learning about
their professional practice in governance.
QUALIFICATIONS
The agency supervisors must have a Masters/Doctorate
degree in Public Administration from an accredited/
prestigious university, practicing administrator for at least
one year, and employed in a setting that provides
experiences which contribute to the development of public
administration and management and leadership skills, and
willing to share experiences and professional values, beliefs
and skills with students.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The agency supervisor shall serve in various roles during the
practicum in assisting the student attain expected learning
outcomes.

His/ Her roles include being a leader, supervisor, manager,


educator, positive role model, coach, mentor,
communicator, change agent, facilitator, resource person,
etc.
As the agency supervisor, he/she is expected to:

1. facilitate the accomplishment of student learning


outcomes.

2. provide an orientation for the student which


includes institutional policies and procedures.

3. serve as a positive role model for the student.
