TECHNOLOGY AND LIVELIHOOD EDUCATION Dressmaking Semi
I. OBJECTIVES:
At end of the lesson the students are expected to:
a. Define trimming and its quality used in garments;
b. Create a concept map about trimming and its quality used in garments;
c. Appreciate the importance of trimming and its quality used in garments.
III. PROCEDURE
A. Preparation
Greet the students and ask them to seat properly.
B. Motivation
Student’s will participate in the game called “CROSSWORD”
C. Lesson Proper
Trims or Trimming are materials used to ornament or enhance garments. They are
visible parts of garments that may be used to increase hanger appeal, provide product
differentiation, relate to current fashion trends and carry a theme through an entire
collection. Trims include a broad range of materials and treatments that may be
superficially applied or structurally incorporated into nearly any type of garment.
Trims should be selected carefully to get desired performance.
Quality of trimmings:
1. LIFETIME – The life time of garments and that of the trimming should be equal.
Otherwise, the trimming will be faded or spoiled by washing, pressing, ironing,
rubbing.
2. COLOR FASTNESS – the color of the trimming should not be faded due to washing
or exposure to sunlight.
3. RUST – where items made from metal, the main construction is the problem of
rusting,
4. COMFORTABILITY – Trimming should not create any comfortable feeling to the
wearer. They should be hygienic also as to cause no skin disease.
