AIM OF THE EXPERIMENT: VERIFICATION OF SUPERPOSITION THEOREM PRINCIPLE IN

AN ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
TWO DC POWER SOURCE OF VOLTAGES 5V EACH

RESISTORS OF RESISTANCE 220 ohm,560 ohm ,330 ohm

BREADBOX, WIRES, MULTIMETER

STATEMENT : In a linear, bilateral network the response in any element is equal to the
sum of individual responses while all other sources are non-operative. The superposition
theorem for electrical circuits states that the response (Voltage or Current) in any branch of a
bilateral linear circuit having more than one independent source equals the algebraic sum of the
responses caused by each independent source acting alone, while all other independent sources
arereplaced by their internal impedances. To ascertain the contribution of each individual
source, all of the other sources first must be "turned off" (set to zero) by replacing all other
independent voltage sources with a short circuit (thereby eliminating difference of potential. i.e.
V=0, internal impedance of ideal voltage source is zero (short circuit) and also by Replacing all
other independent current sources with an open circuit (thereby eliminating current. i.e. I=0,
internal impedance of ideal current source is infinite (open circuit). This procedure is followed for
each source in turn, and then the resultant responses are added to determine the true operation
of the circuit. The resultant circuit operation is the superposition of the various voltage and
current sources.

PROCEDURE:
1.) FIRST WE NEED TO CONNECT THE CIRCUIT AS SHOWN IN FIGURE (1) AND THEN WE SHOULD
NOTE DOWN THE READINGS.

2.) NAME THE CURRENT FLOWING THROUGH THE RESISTOR IS I

3.)NOW CONNECT THE CIRCUIT AS SHOWN IN FIGURE (2) AND NOTE

THE RESISTANCE AS i1

4.)SAME AS ABOVE NOTE THE RESISTANCE FROM THE CIRCUIT WHICh

IS CONNECTED ACCORDING FIGURE (3) .

5.) NOW ADD THE TWO CURRENTS WHICH ARE NOTED FROM BOTH FIGURE (2) AND
FIGURE (3). I=i1+i2

6.) NOW CHECK BOTH THE VALUES THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL.COMPARE THOSE TWO
VALUES.

CIRCUIT DIAGRAMS:
1 2)

3)

RESULTS:
S.no VOLTAGE VOLTAGE TOTAL CURRENT (i1) CURRENT
(V1) (V2) CURRENT (i2)
1 5V 5V 10.44 7.49 2.93

CONCLUSION:

THIS THEOREM IS MOSTLY USED FOR SOLVING COMPLEX CIRCUITS AND THIS THEOREM IS KNOWN AS
SUPERPOSITION THEOREM.
