Gender and Society BSE 2 — Block 1

Who am I?

So, "Who am I?" I ask again, and this time, I find myself pondering this age-old question, seeking to
understand the essence of my being. So, I guess, I should start by introducing my self, I'm Haidalyn
Bacar; 20 years old; a Female; I spoke Tagalog, English, and Molbog dialect; my religion is Islam; some of
my hobbies are eating, sleep, washing movies, listening to music, and my talent is basic painting; I'm
currently a college student, taking up BSE 2. I am a daughter, a sister, a friend and a girlfriend. I find joy
in nurturing my relationships, cherishing the bonds that have shaped me. I am someone who values
connection and empathy. I believe in the power of personal growth and continuous learning. I am
curious and driven to explore new realms of knowledge. I am a lover of nature, it's reminded of my
connection to the universe.

As a college student, I've been grappling with the question, 'Who am I?' It feels like I'm at a crossroads,
constantly pulled in different directions by academic pressures, social expectations, and my own
ambitions. I'm exploring various interests, trying to understand what truly resonates with me and who I
want to become after graduation.

Wait I just realize that I'm not just one-dimensional; I'm a multifaceted being. I'm the sum of my values
and beliefs, experiences, both joyful and painful, which have sculpted me into who I am today. But
above all, I'm still on a journey of self-discovery and the answer to "Who am I?" is not static. It is a
question I will continue to explore, embracing the complexity of my identity and the endless possibilities
of the future.

Why judge Someone based on just ONE of their many identities?

Judging someone based on just one of their many identities is unfair and incomplete because it
oversimplifies their complexity as a person. Each individual has multiple aspects to their identity, such as
race, gender, religion, nationality, and more. Focusing on just one aspect can lead to stereotypes, bias,
and misunderstandings. It's essential to consider the whole person to understand their experiences,
perspectives, and the unique combination of factors that shape who they are.

REFLECTION
REFLECTION 1. What It's Like To Be Intersex (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAUDKEI4QKI)

So here I am, reflecting about the video of "What It's Like To Be Intersex". After watching about the
experiences of those intersex person, I am deeply moved and have gained a better understanding of the
challenges they face. It's clear that intersex individuals often find themselves navigating a world that
does not fully recognize or respect the complexity of their identities.

The first thing that I learned that intersex person are very rare, it's say 1 in 2,000 people are born
intersex. Also the accounts of medical interventions and surgeries performed without informed consent
highlight a grave injustice for an intersex persons, and that's not right.

What stands out most is the resilience and determination of intersex individuals. Despite the adversity
they face, many of them are actively advocating for change, raising awareness, and working toward a
more inclusive society. Their strength and commitment to creating a world that accepts and values
diversity are truly inspiring.

As I reflect on what I've learned on that video, I am reminded of the significance of being. It's essential
to support intersex rights and contribute to the ongoing efforts to create a more accepting and
equitable world. This watching experience has motivated me to seek out resources, educate myself
further, and engage more on watching about intersex issues so that I can gain understanding and
empathy.

In conclusion, watching about the experiences of an intersex person has expanded my perspective on
gender and identity. It has reinforced the importance of empathy, education, and advocacy in fostering
a more inclusive and compassionate society where every individual is respected for who they are.
