2. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF THE INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE
Industrial Attachment was introduced to inspire the students with practical and technical skills, as
a partial fulfillment for the award of a Certificate, Diploma or a Degree and to introduce the
students into working life. The training time allows the students to link the theoretical principles
learnt in the higher learning institutions and the real life professional and technical application. It
gives the students the practical skills and the work environment philosophy, to use their skills and
principles learned in class to serve the institutions and the society in general. Due to the above
reasons, Buruburu Institute of Fine Art has organized 3 months of training in any institution of
students’ choice to give every student an opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge achieved
during the course of study and to acquire new skills in managing relationships and carrying out the
jobs assigned. This is the reason why I joined Moriasi3D to be trained in order to get practical
skills and cut a niche for myself in the design industry
The industrial attachment program fulfills part of the requirement for the award of a Diploma in
Interior Design at Buruburu Institute of Fine Art. This report, therefore, provides a summary of
the activities and duties carried out, as well as experience gained during my attachment period.

5. DETAILS OF INTERNSHIP

5.1 DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPANY

MORIASI 3D is the expert architectural model makers, turning designs into detailed 3D models.
They have the expertise and experience to create any type of model client need – from miniature
developments in architectural model making to oversize marketing models for eye-catching
presentations and retail display.
MORIASI 3D is a name that speaks for itself in the field of model making. It is registered
in Nairobi Kenya and is engaged in creation and development of architectural
and industrial scale models. MORIASI has worked closely with many of the most reputab
le designers, architects, developers, and city planners in the East- African Region.
Since 1987, model makers at MORIASI 3D have been serving clients’ 3d scale model
needs. They started by making 3D architectural models for university students and for residential
developers. At this early stage, Moriasi recognized the importance of understanding his clients’
designs and portraying the design intent through a scale model. At the time all models were purely
handcrafted by a small team and quality was (and it still remains) their priority.
The company then grew to include work-building models for architects, real estate, land
development, industrial design, engineering, sales and marketing, government, trade shows, and
prototypes. They have now gained national recognition as their 3D scale models and prototypes
are exhibited throughout the East African Region.

Excellence in Design

A small-scale model of your architectural design is usually the one thing that can give you a leg
up in landing a client or winning a project. It can also be the factor that can cause you to lose out
on a huge deal.

To impress your clients, you have to take painstaking efforts to bring your ideas and design to
life. With a 3D architectural model-making technology, you can quickly and accurately materialize
your ideas. You can also use it to showcase the features that sketches simply can’t.

As one of the top architectural model-making companies in East-Africa, our team will work with
you to turn your ideas and vision into solid 3D reality.

which finished goods are to be supplied to which client. The manager of this department is
interior designer Moriasi the CEO. Just 7 labour workers work under his supervision.
My supervisor was working as an accountant. The department of accounting and finance is also

the activities of the department of accounting and finance. This department comes under all the

Solving and improving disputes among the department and anything that could hinder the
department’s development. Similarly, the rest of the departments that I mentioned above
do the same job as the department of business administration and accounting and finance
I have detailed above

5.2 OVERVIEW OF THE INTERNSHIP PROJECT

Some of the activities that I undertook at Moriasi 3D include being; Personal Assistant to my
creative Director (Interior Designer), Attending meetings with clients and assessing their
preferences and needs, documenting the proposal and invoices, Helping with the drawing of the
design by hand and by using Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Develop the specifications for the
buildings, detailing the requirements and scheduling, Deal with the building contractors and
manage the contracts, Visit work sites to make sure that the construction meets the schedule and
design, Arrange for materials supplies, Supervise the team doing the hands-on works at the
workshop, Assisted with space planning, construction documents, and day to day tasks, Presented
possible design solutions to a clients, Collaborate with Senior Designer and additional team
members to develop design concepts into design solutions and Learn and Provide design solutions,
the suggestion of materials and furniture selection.

Problems and challenges

The organization creative Director doesn’t understand the design process since the company is
running without a professional interior designer, I was working under pressure to achieve all the
CAD work overnight. The organization did not have even a single computer that can support
software for CAD work, we normally rely on our laptops.
The workers on site were difficult to work with as they did some of the work without consulting
the designer.

12
Some of the project that we did end up being returned to the workshop due to poor finishing as
the Creative Director does not have agreement letter with a client. The projects were so many
sometimes used to overwhelm the design team as we were only two designer.

5.3 EXPERIENCED GAINED DURING THE INTERNSHIP PERIOD.

Working at Moriasi3D & Spotlite Interior design has given me a feel of the working environment,
not only have improved my human relation with co-workers but also patience as well. I also learnt
how to manage the project on-site, employees’ other departments, and even other stakeholders
coming to the firm. During my attachment at Moriasi3D and Spotlite Interior Design, I have
gained practical knowledge in all the courses I took as a theory.
The internship has enabled me to gain first-hand exposure to working in the real world, in that it
allows me to harness the skills, knowledge, and theoretical practice I learned in Buruburu Institute
of Fine Arts. The great thing about my internship is that it taught me as a young professional about
the specific industries and companies that am interested in and it has exposed me to new people in
a more controlled and stable environment that will have a positive impact on my career plan.

6. RECOMMENDATION
Moriasi3D and Spotlite Interior Design should employ an electronic attendances system to the
employees so as to easen their work in excuting and developing the architectural layout. There
should be a laid down procedure for monitoring workers as well as some motivational packages
for workers who establish themself well. The compulsory supervised industrial attachment of the
institution gives students the opportunity to apply knowledge in real work, exposing students to
work methods not taught in the college and providing access to products and equipment not
available in the college as well as assessing students’ interest in the occupation he/she plans to
undertake, the program should therefore be able to maintain and the period extended after
undergoing the whole process of training the attaché recommends that:
More students should undertake their attachment at these two firms. This is because the
organization has good employees who are always willing to help and assist students in their
learning process. This assistance is key as it encourages one to learn and work with others as a
team. There is a need for the employees to maintain their spirit of helping students. This will help
in building the corporate image of the organization hence making it easy for the organization to
get any assistance in case it is needed, by the community. Due to the increase in the population,
there is a need for the organization to improve its service delivery. This should be done by
analyzing the employee requirements in improving the pace of service delivery in the organization.
These should be done by considering the following
issues:
