Three-Dimensional Trigonometry

1. Batoul stands in a field and observes that the angle between the lines to the bases of 2
trees is 39°, while the angle of elevation to one tree is 15°. If Batoul is 65 metres from the
other tree, find the height h of the first tree. (Ans. 22.4m)

2. A wooden box has the shape of a rectangular prism with dimensions 18cm × 8cm × 4cm.
Find, correct to the nearest degree, the angle that the longest diagonal makes with the base
of the box. (Ans: ≈ 11°)

3. The Great Pyramid of Cheops at Giza in Egypt has a square base of side length 230m. The
angle of elevation of one triangular face is 52°. Determine the measure of the angle θ
between the height and one of the edges where two triangular faces meet. (Ans: ≈ 48°)
