chemical compounds. Krypton is about three times heavier than air and is colorless, odorless, tasteless,
and monatomic. Although traces can be found in meteorites and minerals, krypton is more abundant in
the Earth's atmosphere, which has 1.14 parts per million by volume. The element was discovered in
1898 by British scientists Sir William Ramsay and Morris W. Travers in the residue remaining after
boiling almost totally away a sample of liquid air.
