Due: June 6, 2020 Hour: 12:00

Q1. Acetylene (C2H2) at 298K, 1 bar enters a combustion chamber at steady state, and it is
burned completely with air at 298K, 1 bar. Combustion products exit at 600K, 1 bar. Molar
analysis of the dry products of combustion shows 8% CO2, 4% CO, 8.2% O2, and 79.8% N2.

(a) Write the combustion equation.

(b) Find the percentage of excess air.

(c) Find the air-fuel ratio on the mass basis.

(d) Find the mole fraction of water in the products.

(e) Find the temperature of products below which H2O begins to condense into liquid at 1 bar.

(f) Calculate the rate of heat transfer from the combustion chamber, in kJ per kmol of fuel.
