Let Us Study

In your previous English lesson, you have learned about how to

compose clear and coherent sentences using verb tenses.

In this lesson we are going to use conjunctions in expressing our ideas

by writing clear and coherent sentences. It can be said that conjunctions are
linking or connecting words which join together words and sentences. It
basically makes any sentence sensible and comprehensible or easy to
understand.
This module will help you learn the different types of conjunctions, their
examples and uses.

Read the short story. Observe the highlighted words, what are they
called? Are you familiar with them?

by
Once upon a time, there lived a poor little girl and her mother.
Although they were poor, they shared what they had with those who needed
them. One day, the little girl shared her last piece of bread with a dirty, old
beggar even if she was still hungry. The beggar turned out to be a real fairy.
She was rewarded with plenty of gold because of her goodness. Now, the girl
and her mother are already rich, but they have not forgotten to be kind to
others.
Source: Lesson Guides in Elementary English 6 p. 153

Have you done an act of kindness before, like the girl in the story? What
did you do? What did you feel after doing it? Were you given a reward for doing
so? Do you expect something in return whenever you do an act of kindness?
The highlighted words from the story are called conjunctions or
connecting words like and, but, even if, because, although. They are used
to connect similar/opposite ideas, to show cause or reason, to express
exception and condition and many more.
