Subject: First Quarter Test Materials Development For The First Quarter Assessment

1. Please be informed that the First Quarter Examination for school year 2023-2024 per
Deped Order No. 22, s. 2023 is scheduled on October 26-27, 2023.
2. Test questions in all learning areas must be submitted on October 10, 2023 at the Principal’s
office for validation by the master teacher assigned in the grade level and the school head.
3. Please remember to exercise careful planning and consideration to ensure they effectively
measure the intended knowledge or skills. Here are some key factors to consider when
constructing test papers:
a. Learning Objectives: Begin by identifying the specific learning objectives or
outcomes you want to assess. What do you want the test to measure? Clearly define
the skills, knowledge, or abilities you want to evaluate.
b. Test Format: Decide on the format of the test, which could include multiple-choice
questions, true/false questions, short-answer questions, essay questions, or a
combination of these. The format should align with the learning objectives and the
level of cognitive skills you want to assess.
c. Question Types:

1. Multiple-Choice: Ensure that multiple-choice questions have clear and concise


stems, with well-constructed answer choices. Avoid ambiguous or tricky
wording.
2. True/False: Make sure statements are accurate and not misleading.
3. Short-Answer: Craft questions that require brief, specific responses. Provide
clear instructions on the expected format and depth of the answers.
4. Essay: If using essay questions, provide a clear prompt, grading criteria, and
guidelines for response length.
d. Bloom's Taxonomy: Consider the cognitive levels you want to assess, such as
remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating and creating. Mix
question types to target various cognitive skills. The following verbs will help specify
the level of cognitive engagement and the expected outcomes when designing
learning objectives, assessments, and instructional activities.

1. Remembering: Involves recognizing or recalling facts, concepts, or


information.
Define, Recall, List, Identify, Name, Recognize, Retrieve, State
2. Understanding: Requires interpreting, explaining, or paraphrasing
information.
Explain, Describe, Interpret, Paraphrase, Summarize, Infer, Classify,
Compare, Contrast
3. Applying: Involves using knowledge or concepts in new or familiar
situations.
Apply, Use, Demonstrate, Solve, Illustrate, Calculate, Modify, Show,
Construct
4. Analyzing: Requires breaking down information into its components
and identifying relationships or patterns
Analyze, Compare, Contrast, Differentiate, Investigate, Examine,
Deconstruct, Categorize, Organize
5. Evaluating: Involves making judgments or assessments based on criteria
and evidence.
Evaluate, Assess, Judge, Critique, Justify, Validate, Defend, Appraise,
Argue
6. Creating: Requires generating new ideas, products, or solutions.
Create, Generate, Design, Invent, Develop, Compose, Construct,
Formulate, Hypothesize

e. Question Clarity: Ensure that questions are clear, free from grammatical errors, and
devoid of any confusing or vague language.
f. Balance and Coverage: Ensure that the test covers a representative sample of the
course material or learning objectives. Avoid overemphasizing a single topic or
concept.
g. Difficulty Level: Create questions that span a range of difficulty levels. Include both
easy and challenging items to differentiate between students with varying levels of
mastery.
h. Fairness and Bias: Review questions for any potential cultural, gender, or other
biases that may disadvantage certain groups of students.
i. Test Instructions: Provide clear and concise instructions at the beginning of the test,
including information on how to submit answers, whether resources are allowed, and
any other relevant guidelines.
j. Test Review: Review the test to ensure it aligns with the learning objectives and that
there are no errors or inconsistencies.
k. Security: Maintain the security and confidentiality of test questions to prevent leaks
or cheating.
l. Feedback: Plan for providing feedback to students after the assessment to facilitate
their learning and improvement.
