Glossary
1. Rumors – piece of news that might be true which quickly spreads from person to
person
2. impending – describes and event, usually something unpleasant or unwanted
3. abandon – stop or discontinue
4. suspension – stop
5. abusive – using rude and offensive word
6. resent - feel bitterness or indignation at (a circumstance, action, or person).
7. ineffectual - not producing any significant or desired effect.

8. territory - an area of land under the jurisdiction of a ruler or state.

9. ties – A strong connection between people or groups of people.

10. tribute - an act, statement, or gift that is intended to show gratitude, respect, or
admiration

11. Vassal - a holder of land by feudal tenure on conditions of homage and allegiance.

12. Declaration - a formal or explicit statement or announcement.


13. Intervene - take part in something so as to prevent or alter a result or course of events.

14. dispatch – end off to a destination or for a purpose.


15. punitive -inflicting or intended as punishment.

16.expedition –a journey undertaken by a group of people with a particular purpose,


especially that of exploration, research, or war.

17. fugitive –a person who has escaped from captivity or is in hiding.

18. proceed- begin a course of action.

19. appeal - make a serious, urgent, or heartfelt request.

20. rival - a person or group competing with others for the same things

21. claimant - a person who asks for something which they believe belongs to them

22. pursuit - the act of following or chasing somebody


23. attempt - an act of trying to do something

24. executed - kill somebody especially as a legal punishment

25. troubles - problem, worry, difficulty

26. frontier - a line that separates two countries

27. guerrilla - a member of a small group of soldiers who are not part of an official
army

28. rendezvous - a place where people have arranged to meet

29. mobilized - organized a group of people to achieve a particular aim

30. outnumbered - be greater in sb/sth

31. cannon- an old type of large heavy gun usually on wheel

32. fierce - angry and aggressive

33. bursting - exploding

34. shell - a metal case filled with explosives to be fired from a large gun
