Lesson Idea Name: Life Cycle of a Butterfly

Using the Padlet lesson provided, I will learn the life cycle of a butterfly and then create my own
model of another living organism using Microsoft Sway.

and completing projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared
outside of the classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the
school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another
class, or publishing it via an outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation: As you address the standards, what will students and teachers do?

students’ prior knowledge as they start their learning? How will you provide authentic real-world
tasks to motivate your learners? How will student learning be assessed? How will you conclude the

As students go through the Padlet lesson, the teacher will monitor the students to be sure that they
are working through the lesson correctly and efficiently. The teacher will also monitor the Jamboard
as the students are working to be sure that students are inserting appropriate and content related
pictures/texts. Every 10-15 minutes, the teacher will stop students to discuss with the class where
they are at in the lesson and what they have learned so far. The students’ prior knowledge will be
accessed when discussing what they already know about the life cycle of the butterfly. The class will
have already discussed the meaning of life cycles, so they should at least be able to predict what the
butterfly’s life cycle looks like. Throughout the teaching of this standard, students will be given the
opportunity to watch real-life caterpillars turn into butterflies (classroom pet(s)). They students’
learning will be assessed using Blooket. This online tool allows the creator (teacher, in this case) to
see the results of the online assessment. To conclude the lesson, I will bring the class back together
for whole group discussion. We will discuss what we learned about the life cycle of a butterfly and
which living organism we will create a model of. After determining the next living organism, the
teacher will explain to students the process of making their own model using Microsoft Sway.

Managing student learning:


Using Padlet, Blooket, and Jamboard, students will become active social learners rather than passive
learners. These online tools give the students the chance to have a say in their learning. It also allows
the students to work at their own pace.

To allow for time-on-task and shift from passive to active learning to take place, the teacher will
create a time limit for the completion of the Padlet lesson. There should also be time limits placed
on the amount of time that students take to complete the Jamboard activities. Also, the time that
their given to share their work to their shoulder partner should be limited to no more than 30
seconds.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):


This experience shows multiple means of engagement. The lesson includes music, collaboration, and
art. This experience/lesson gives students choices to ‘fuel’ student’s interests. Because they are
given choices, they are more likely to be engaged in their work.

This experience also provides multiple means of representation. The lesson presents the content in

multiple ways, such as audio/video and text (captions on the videos).


Reflective Practice:
I believe that this tool will help students build understanding in a way that they could not do with
traditional tools, because it involves activities and supports that are engaging. The lesson is designed
to hook the learners’ interest and involve them in their own learning.

I look forward to implementing the idea of using a tool, such as Padlet, in my future classroom. I
believe this tool efficiently grasps the students’ attention and allows them to make choices in their
own learning experience.
