Genes and Genetic Engineering

Your task is to put together a information leaflet or poster about genetic engineering.

Success Criteria

1: Research the terms ‘genes’ and ‘DNA’ and explain how the two are linked.

2: Make a model of a DNA helix! You can get creative for this task 😊

3. Find out what characteristics are determined by your genes. Where do you get your
genes from?

4. Find out what genetic engineering is and give some examples of what it can be used
for.

5. Create a list of the advantages and disadvantages of genetic engineering.

Suggested Timetable:

Week 1: Task 1 – Research the terms genes and DNA and explain how the two are
linked.

Week 2-3: Task 2 – Make your own DNA helix model

Week 4: Task 3 – What characteristics are determined by your genes and where do you
get your genes from

Week 5: Task 4. Find out what genetic engineering is and what it can be used for.

Week 6: Task 5 – Create a list of the advantages and disadvantages of genetic

engineering.
