WHAT IS MS WORD?
Microsoft Word is a word processing program that allows for the creation of both simple and
complex documents. With Office 365, you are able to download the application to your hard
drive and will also have access to the online version.
MS Word enables users to do write-ups, create documents, resumes, contracts, etc. This is one of
the most commonly used programs under the Office suite.
The basic function of MS WORD are Title Bar – Displays the name of the document and the
program name. Menu Bar – Provides access to different commands and functions. Toolbar –
Contains icons for commonly used commands and functions. Document Area – The main area
where users can create and edit their documents.
MS Word provides several benefits for academic writing and research projects. It is user-
friendly, provides formatting options, collaboration and sharing tools, citation and
referencing features, templates, spell and grammar check, auto-save, and ease of access.
The menu begins with the word File and continues with Edit, View, Insert, Format, Tools,
Table, Window, and Help. You use the menu to give instructions to the software. Point with
your mouse to the menu option and click the left mouse button to open a drop-down menu.
Save your document, so you don't lose all your hard work, then print it to share it with others.
Click FILE > Save, pick or browse to a folder, type a name for your document in the File name
box, and click Save. Save your work as you go - hit Ctrl+S often. To print, click the FILE tab,
and then click Print.
