Honestly, when I started college I am not really into my chosen program.

I always have second doubts

on music. I do have the interest, yet there is no drive on it. I was a San Lorenzo Ruiz Scholar of the
University of Santo Tomas, even if I wanted to shift, I cannot because of my granted scholarship. I
continued my studies and with years of training and learning, I have gained the drive and passion to
pursue and love the program. This is all thanks to my professors who have given and shared their
talents, experiences, and motivations to us, students. I have found my purpose in my chosen field, and
with burning passion, I would like to continue and act on it. My gratitude towards my UST-professors in
music pushed me to give back to my roots, the University of Santo Tomas-Conservatory of Music. My
love and willingness to share, to teach, and to give to my students not only the theoretical side of music
but the experiences and motivations I had when I was in my undergrad years.

Majoring in Composition, I would like to contribute these 3 aspects of music: Academic/Serious music,
Liturgical Music, and Pop Music.

Personally, there is a lot of things yet to be discovered in musicology. I want to continue my studies to
unravel the deeper essence of music in our nature. In composition, understanding music is necessary;
That is why I want to tackle and research more on musicology. I see music as science that would help us
understand the universe better, and this would benefit other sciences, such as physics, psychology,
sociology, and other related sciences on humans. This would help me in my compositions because I
aurally present what I have research and discovered. I am planning to take my masters in composition in
the University of the Philippines - Diliman and my Doctorate in Composition in Mahidol University in
Thailand.

My stay in the royal and pontifical university deepened my catholic faith. Ever since my first years in
college, I have been serving the liturgical celebrations of the university whether parish based, univ-wide,
or in the archdiocese of Manila. I have been teaching church musicians inside and outside of the
university and would like to continue serving the church. Continuing what I have started, this would
benefit a lot in my pedagogical approach while teaching in the university. My interactions with formal
and informal trained musicians will enrich my experience and pedagogical techniques, this will also fulfill
my contribution to the church as a Catholic. My church musicianship only blossomed in UST and my
deepest gratitude to all the opportunities given to me. I want to give back not only to the University but
for the whole church itself. For I have devoted my life as a Catholic to serve Christ. I am currently a
member of the Young Thomasian Professionals – Lay Dominican of the University and still an active
musician/instrumentalist in the UST-Santisimo.

I was also active in the pop culture side of music. I am currently an independent music producer,
arranger, and band sessionist. I want to enter music industry as I found it as an essential part of being a
musician. I want to be recognized also in the mainstream music, writing songs, participating in
competitions, mixing and mastering, and more. This experience will help me improve my craft and
understand the musical taste of the new generation. It will also be an avenue for me to keep in touch
with the populace
As a composer with a Thomasian heart, I want to contribute to these 3 aspects of music:
Academic/Serious music, Liturgical Music, and Pop Music. And with all the experiences that I will learn
ahead of me, I will return with great competence, commitment, and compassion what I have learned
along the way to musicology, to our church, and to the University who found my passion and love for
music, the University of Santo Tomas.
