1. SIMULATION EXPERIMENT 1:
1.1 PURPOSE:
1.3 HYPOTHESIS:
(1)
1.5 Method:
1.5.1 Use the PHET simulation on the computer and build a circuit with ONE
cell, ammeter, light bulb and switch IN SERIES.
1.5.2 CONNECT THE AMMETER INTO THE CIRCUIT. You can connect
the ammeter anywhere in the circuit.
1.5.4 Draw a circuit diagram of the circuit you have set up on the
computer.
2
1.5.5 Observe the brightness of the light bulb and write down the
ammeter reading.
1.6 RESULTS:
3
(6)
3
1.7 Draw a graph to represent the relationship between the number of light
bulbs and the amperage.

1.8 ANALYSIS:
1.8.1 What happens to the brightness of the light bulbs when the
number of light bulbs increases.
(2)
1.8.2 With two bulbs in the circuit, did one bulb burn brighter than the
other or did they shine equally brightly?
(2)
1.8.3 With three light bulbs in the circuit, did one shine brighter than the
other two or did they shine equally brightly?
(2)
1.8.4 What can you conclude from the previous answers about the electric current in
a series circuit?
(2)
1.6.5 How did the ammeter reading change when you connected more light
bulbs in series?
(2)
1.9 DEDUCTION:
1.9.1 According to your answers above, what happens to the electric current
when more light bulbs are connected in series?
(2)

2. SIMULATION EXPERIMENT 2:
2.1 PURPOSE:
How does adding bulbs in parallel affect the brightness of the bulbs?
2.3 HYPOTHESIS:
(1)
2.5 Method:
2.5.1 Use the PHET simulation on the computer and build a circuit with ONE
cell, ammeter, light bulb and switch.
2.5.2 CONNECT THE AMMETER INTO THE CIRCUIT. You can connect
the ammeter anywhere in the circuit.
2.5.4 Observe the brightness of the light bulb and write down the
ammeter reading.
6
2.6 RESULTS:
Study the diagrams below. Set up similar simulations with the PHET
program and then answer the questions:
2.6.1 WITH THE SWITCHES CLOSED: How does the ammeter reading compare at
position A and B in the parallel circuit?
(2)
2.6.2 WITH THE SWITCHES CLOSED: How does the brightness of the light
bulbs in circuit A compare with that of circuit B?
(2)
2.6.3 Particles numbered E are the electrons that cause the electric charge to
flow through the circuit.
In which two parts do the electrons flow at the same speed when
the switches are closed? A and B, Or C and D Or B and D
(2)
……………………………..
2.6.4 How does the ammeter reading compare at position A and C in the
parallel circuit?
