Time Lesson Notes


6:00 – Computer Literacy
6:30  The first five minutes will introduce the class.
Go over the tasks for tonight and any
business that needs to be addressed.
 The students have the choice between:
o NoRedInk
o SkillsCanada
o Typing.com
o ReadTheory
o Quill.org
6:30 – Listening
7:00  Ted Talk HERE
 Have the students break into small groups
afterwards and discuss the video.
 Post leading questions on the board.
o Do you agree with the speaker? Why
or why not?
o Do you think her advice would work
in your life? Why or why not?
o What are your criticisms of her
advice?
o Etc.
7:00 – Speaking
7:30  1-minute speeches (3-person group edition)
 Students will be broken into groups of three
(different groups than the ones above)
 Students will be given a prompt, then must
speak to their group about the topic.
 The topics are:
o My favorite fruit and why.
o The worst song I have ever heard
and why.
o What sport I think should stop being
played and why.
o The book that has meant the most to
me and why.
o My favorite dessert and why.
o A hobby I would like to try and why.
o The best advice I have ever heard
and why.
o What is something I would never try
and why?
o What is my favorite physical activity
and why?
o The best movie I’ve seen and why.
o Something I’ve always wanted to
know and why.
o The best meal you’ve ever had and
why.
7:30 – Reading  Copy exercise 43
8:00  Timed Reading  Make 15 copies
 Remind the newer student of the format of  Be sure to put up the online
the reading. stopwatch HERE
 The students have up to 5 minutes to read
the passage, and the rest of the time to
complete the questions on the back side of
the page.
 Several students will finish this activity in the
first 5 minutes. These students are
encouraged to work on their digital literacy
tasks to fill the time.
8:00 – Writing
8:30  Essay Structure
 Today they will work on the body of the
essay. They will continue the topic from
yesterday.
 Refer to the handout given yesterday
 Have the students watch the video HERE
 The students will fill out the second part of
the work pages as a group afterwards.
8:30 – Bonus Assessment/Goals Work
8:50  Students will have the opportunity to work
toward their Bonus Assessments here.
 They should have chosen their bonus
assessment in a previous class.
 This time may also be used as “spill-over”
time for the Writing section of class.

8:50 – Final thoughts, class questions, hand-out homework Homework (if any):
9:00 assignment
 If there was a topic that was discussed today
that you feel needs a little more focus or
time, take this time to go over that concept
again.
 Ask the class if they have any questions
related to today’s class; it may take some
probing or leading questions to get them
started.
 If there is homework, hand it out now.
 This is also overflow time for if sections of
the class go long.
