A dash is a Little horizontal line that floats in the middle of a line of text.

There are three types of dashes.

4. WHY IS IT CALLED N DASH?

Because it´s length is equal to the width of the letter n, hence the name.

5. HOW TO USE THE N DASH?

Use the en dash to introduce a range of numbers, time, and dates. To report
the result of a match or a contest. To show a connection. To signal
opposition.

6. WHY DO MANY PEOPLE MISUSE THE N DASH?

because they confuse it with the hyphen due to its resemblance, but the
latter is shorter.

7. WHAT OTHER MEANING CAN BE GIVEN TO EN DASH?

An en dash can express the meaning of "a" or "and" in situations other than
numerical ranges, for example, describing directions, relationships, or
scores (in a vote or game).

8. ARE THERE MORE NAME FOR THE DASHES?

Yes, n dash is also known as ‘rule n’ and m dash as ‘rule m’.

9. WHY ‘RULE’?
Well, it´s not a rule like ‘law’, it´s rule like ‘ruler’ or ‘straight thing’.

Because the length of the M dash is equal to the width of the letter m.

Use the em dash to introduce a pause in a sentence (just like a comma).To
replace a colon to introduce something a conclusion, justification, or
summarization of the previous text. To interrupt the flow of a sentence and
drop some off topic information in it. To introduce a list (just like a colon).

12. WHERE CAN YOU ALSO USE THE EM DASH?

It can also be used after a citation to point to its author.

13. WHY IS THE M DASH ONE OF THE MOST VERSATILE PUNCTUATION

MARKS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE?
Because it can work like a comma, semicolon, parentheses, and even a
colon in informal language.

14. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE M DASH IN A TEXT?

The use of m dash aims to bring greater strength and emphasis.

15. WHAT THINGS SHOULD WE NOT FORGET WHEN USING DASHES?

Keep in mind that no space should be left before or after the hyphen m or
hyphen n. In formal writing, you should use em dash sparingly.
