Round shape, conical shape, oval shape, rectangular shape, crescent shape, and double-cone shape.
Before the advent of the technique of bead making, beads were created by shaping small pieces of clay,
wood, or metal into small cylindrical forms. They were then heated and pierced in the center using a
thin needle, followed by placing them in a furnace and heating until they became spherical in shape.
Later, colors were applied by dipping them in dyes.
Sangam beads were made by using seashells or conch shells. They were pierced in the center and used
for various purposes. Using these shells, artisans created various designs such as the conch, bangle, or
bracelet, and anklet.
Regardless of the type of bead, it is shaped into a desirable form, heated until it becomes soft, and then
molded using a copper or gold wire. It is then further shaped into beads by tapping it on an iron or gold
hammer or by using a special tool. In this manner, the bead-making process involves shaping, rounding,
engraving, and cutting.
