Oedometer test – Brief

Use the results as provided and Geo-Sim to determine the following parameters for the soil
sample:
Coefficient of volume compressibility (mv)
• Compression index (Cc)
• Pre-consolidation pressure (σc’) t90 (Taylor or root time method)
• t50 (Casagrande or log time method)
• Coefficient of consolidation (cv)
• Also compute the moisture content (Before and After the test)

Write a report (not more than 15 pages) presenting your analysis and discussion of results.
Your report must include the following:

Declaration form, Introduction, Sample preparation and procedure (use Geo-Sim to simulate
the experiment), Determination of parameters (include graphs and calculations), Discussion
and Conclusions.

Refer to the following for more information and demonstration (videos at the bottom of the
page):

Follow these guidelines in writing your report. First, the paper size must be A4. Then the
page setup must be adjusted so that all margins are 2.5 cm (top, bottom, left and right). The
body text should be aligned to “justified” style and line spacing must be 1½.

Font type Times New Roman, size 12 pt. should be used throughout the text (also for the line
