This document provides an introduction to conic sections and circles. It outlines the learning objectives which are to describe conic section parts, illustrate different types of conic sections and degenerate cases, determine eccentricity, and apply conic sections to real life. It then defines and gives the standard equation of a circle, and provides exercises to write circle equations given the center and radius.

Subject - teacher LEARNING OBJECTIVES
• After going through this module, you are expected to:
1. Discuss and describe the parts of a conic sections. 2. Illustrate the different types of conic sections and degenerate cases. 3. Determine the eccentricity of conic sections. 4. Apply conic sections and degenerate cases in our real - life situation. line Types of Conic Sections
1. Circle – the conic section
formed by the plane being parallel to the base of the cone.
2. Ellipse – the conic section
formed by the plane being at an angle to the base of the cone. Types of Conic Sections
3. Hyperbola – the conic
section formed by the plane being perpendicular to the base of the cone.
4. Parabola – the conic
section formed by the pane being parallel to the cone. CIRCLE LEARNING OBJECTIVES After going through this module, you are expected to 1. Defines circle; 2. Determines the standard form of a circle; 3. Graphs a circle in a rectangular coordinate system. A circle is consist of all points on the plane equidistant from a fixed point called the center. The distance from the center to any point on the circle is constant and is called the radius of the circle. Standard Equation of a Circle
the center is at (h, k) or any point in the cartesian plane
(x - h)2 + (y - k)2 = r2
• center at the origin (0,0)
x2 + y2 = r2
NOTE: the radius is r (notice that in the equation r is squared) Exercises 1
Write the equation of a circle given the center
and radius. • 1. Center (0, 0) and radius = 12 • 2. Center (0, 0) and radius = √5 • 3. Center (0, 0) and radius = 1.5 GENERAL FORM OF THEEQUATION OF A CIRCLE THANK YOU FOR LISTENING !
