I. OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:

a. Identify what is argumentative essay.


b. Determine ways to organize ideas and opinions in an
argumentative essay.
c. Compose an argumentative essay from a given topic.

A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of how world


literatures and other text types serve as vehicles of expressing
and resolving conflicts among individuals or groups; also, how to
use strategies in critical reading, listening, and viewing, and
affirmation and negation markers to deliver impromptu and
extemporaneous speeches.

B. Performance Standards The learner proficiently delivers an argumentative speech


emphasizing how to resolve conflicts among individuals or
groups.

What I need to Know?

 The learners will do the walkthrough of the lesson


expectations.
 In this part, the content of the lesson will be presented.
 Learning objectives will also be introduced to guide the
learners on the learning targets based on KSAV principles.

What’s new?
A. Introduction
 The leaners will do Activity 1: Read to Write! on page 2, by
reading the sample argumentative essay entitled,
“Aggressive Driving Should be Avoided”. To make the
reading activity interactive, they may ask their parents,
guardians, or housemates to help them.
 After reading the sample essay, they will accomplish
Activity 2: Reason Out on page 3 of the SLM and Activity
4: I Saw the Sign on page 4 of the SLM.

What I Know?
 The learners will do the activity on page 1 of the SLM.
 After accomplishing the activity, they may check their
answers on page 8 to determine their background
knowledge about the given topic reflected in the MELC.

 The learners will read the paragraphs that introduce

What is it?
 The learners will read the introductory part of the lecture
on argumentative essay. This part of the SLM defines an
argumentative essay. The organization of an
argumentative essay is also presented in this part of the
SLM.

 The learners will perform the activity 4: Identify and
Classify on pages 5 and Activity 5: Driving in the New
Normal on page 6.

 The learners will perform Activity 7: I entitled Topics for
Argumentative Essays on page 6 of the SLM.
C. Engagement  The learners will do activity 8: Test Your Knowledge on
page 7 of the SLM.
 They are expected to reflect on the process of performing
the task while focusing on their learned concepts about
argumentative essay.

Additional Activities
 To further enrich learners’ knowledge, skills, and attitude,
they will perform other enrichment activity on page 7 of
the SLM.
What I have learned?

 The learners will do Activity 6: Complete me on page 6 of


the SLM.
 In formulating or creating bits of information reflective of
what they have learned during the Development and
Engagement phases, the learners will answer the
questions focusing on the given topic. The given questions
are directed on synthesizing their learned information
based on the given context.
 They are expected to relate their learned concepts to their
