Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective created by


the British writer Arthur Conan Doyle. Sherlock
Holmes is famous for his good observation, deduction
and logic, that he employs when he investigates. He
investigates cases for many clients, including
Scotland Yard.
He first appeared in A Study in Scarlet in 1887 and
soon became popular. Conan Doyle wrote four novels and 56 short stories in total. All the
stories, except one of them, are set between about 1880 -1914 and most are narrated by the
character of Holmes’s friend Dr. John H. Watson, who usually accompanies Holmes during his
investigations.
There has been a great number of stage adaptations, films, television productions and
publications featuring Sherlock Holmes, and a Guinness World Records lists him as the most
portrayed human literary character in film and television history.
