SEND - IN ASSIGNMENT

UNIT 3

Polynomials

Check the boxes to indicate you understand each statement before starting this
assignment:
□ The work on this assignment is entirely my own. I did not receive any help from
another person or math solving apps in answering any of these questions.
□ I understand that the purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate my current
independent understanding of this material. That means I will try to complete the
assignment in a reasonable amount of time without referring too much to my
notes, I will show my work for each problem, and it is okay for my work to be
imperfect.
□ I have worked through the online lessons and practice work in this unit before
beginning this assignment.
□ I understand that I will receive feedback on this assignment (including a
marked-up copy of my work), and I will review that feedback and use it to help
me to continue my learning.

After completing the assignment, estimate the number of hours you spent on it (i.e. 1.5
or 3):
_______________ hours

13. The graph below is one of the following functions:

A. 𝑓𝑓(𝑥𝑥) = 𝑥𝑥 2 (𝑥𝑥 + 2)(𝑥𝑥 − 3.5)
B. 𝑔𝑔(𝑥𝑥) = (𝑥𝑥 + 2)(𝑥𝑥 − 3.5)

E. 𝑝𝑝(𝑥𝑥) = (𝑥𝑥 + 2)(3.5 − 𝑥𝑥)(𝑥𝑥 2 + 2)

Without using a graphing tool, identify the function in the graph and explain why each of the others is not the
correct function.

14. At Domino’s Pizza, the cardboard boxes used to deliver Crazy Bread are made out of a single flat sheet of
cardboard that is folded along the dotted lines as shown below. Diagram is not to scale.
a) Write a formula for the volume of the cardboard box in terms of x.

b) If the volume of the box needs to be 512 cm3, find all possible solutions for the value of x, rounding to
two decimal places. This question can be solved algebraically or with technology. Show all your work. If
solved with technology, include a sketch of your graph.
