6. PROCEDURE

SURVEYING
Prior to commencing the driving of temporary tubular steel casings, exact location of each pile will be set out at site using surveying instruments and onsite
benchmarks, conforming to the issued construction drawings. Each pile will be set out from confirmed and protected reference points established by the issued
drawings.
Surveyors will keep the necessary records. Surveyors will check the actual positions of casings before commencement of drilling operations.
A. SEQUENCE OF PILING WORKS Ground preparation
Working platform for drilling rig shall be leveled with the use of excavator to ensure flatness. All the access road include backfilling work must be done in prior to start
any drilling work.
Setup of the pile drilling rig

Project :

Drilling rig shall be set accurately over a marked piling position with the auger center in line to the pin. The temporary steel casing attached to the drilling rig shall be
checked for
verticality using a plumb on both ways. The will then be lowered to the pile centre and measured against the reference pins.
Adjustments are to be made such that the reference pins are equidistant from the temporary steel casing. See Figure 1.
Figure 1 : Platform preparation & Drilling Rig Setting

Drilling of Pile Borehole & Driving Of Temporary Tubular Steel Casing (full casing)
Due to the procedure of placing a full steel casing with the rotary table of the drilling rig, the verticality of the borehole is fixed from tip to toe. The verticality of the
casing will be checked by a spirit-level each way during installation. The piles would be installed using a specially developed rotary system which will ensure a
minimum disturbance of original soil conditions and negligible influence to piles already cast.
The full steel casing shall be rotated into the ground together with the auger bit, In this case, natural geo-materials during drilling will not collapse. Bored soil, slurry
and water will
be carried out while drilling to ground by the rods and high-pressured air from tip of drill bit. See Figure 2.
Figure 2 : Drilling with Casing
The steel casing shall be installed up to the required excavation depth with a balance of 0.5m to 1.5m protruding from ground level for second concrete pouring
procedure which will replace the space occurred by thickness of temporary casing.
The steel casing shall be dislodged from the rotary table and left inside the bored hole.
Remained soils and slurry, water inside casing will be spouted when the auger bit and rod lifted out. Foreman shall then visually inspect the cleanliness of the bored
hole, verticality of casing with plumb-bob and measure the depth with a band tape in the presence of client’s QC/QA or other representative before insertion of
reinforced steel cage. See Figure 3.
Records of each piling activities will be recorded and submitted to contractor.
Figure 3 : Completion of Boring and Casing remains in the ground
In accordance with soil condition, Soils and slurry, water may penetrate into bored casing, through bottom of casing and eventually this will cause boiling
phenomenon.

Preparation for Boiling Action (If necessary)

1. To prevent “Boiling Action” Water Tank shall be located and ready to inject (pour) water into casing to adjust water level (1:1 ratio with sea level) of both
outside and inside of casing.
2. There will be no boiling action when both outside and inside of casing water level are even. In such case of Sand, slurry already penetrated into casing before
injection of water, immediate action of discharging the sand from casing should be taken.
3. After all, there is only water that remains (same with sea level) and no penetration will occur when pressures are equal.
4. Now it is ready to place reinforced rebar cage (Cage be will lowered down to required depth without any problem).

Preparation and Placing of Reinforcement Cage

Steel reinforcement conforming to the specification will be supplied along with mill test certificates of the manufacturer. Rebar cage shall be preassembled in
accordance with the detailed drawing of Pile Reinforcement on Drawing. Rebar cage units (portions) will be prepared at the site and will be transported by a service
crane. Lengths of prefabricated rebar cage units will be adjusted to minimize site splicing.
Circular plastic spacers will be provided to ensure the required nominal concrete cover to the outermost reinforcement (between the wall of the pile borehole and the
rebar cage). Fully fabricated reinforced rebar cage will be lifted by our state of art innovated piling machine or by service crane and lowered down into the borehole.
Alternatively, clamps may also be used in the longitudinal bars for making the splices.
The entire cage is then lowered inside the pile borehole to the correct position. See Figure 4. Placement of Concrete
Concreting will start as soon as possible after drilling is completed and the rebar cage is placed inside the pile borehole (Tremie Pipe will be used). The specific concrete
mixture has to be tested on site and applied to the concreting of bored cast-in-situ piles after getting the engineer’s approval. Supplied concrete must meet the
specification and contractor will provide the concrete to the site.
At the start, the tip of the pipe is placed on the pile bottom. Then filled with concrete and lifted to about 30 cm from the bottom. The down end of the pipe shall be kept
submerged at least 1m~2m below the concrete surface at all time. See Figure 5.
Figure 4 : Placing of Reinforcement Cage
Figure 5: Concrete Pouring
Concrete pour will be stopped above the final pile cut-off level to avoid any indecent concrete remaining at or below the final pile cut-off level. Concrete pour will
continue until decent concrete overflows from top of the surface casing, or, if the final pile cut-off level is deeper than 1m~2m below the working platform level, then
concrete pour will continue up to at least
1m above the final pile cut-off level.
Figure 6: Concrete (Will replace the space occupied by thickness of casing)
Extracting Temporary Casing
As soon as concreting is completed, the casing is ready to be extracted. The casing will be extracted slowly with a uniform speed in vertical direction with spinning after
attached to rotary table. See Figure: 7.
During extraction of the temporary casing, an additional head of concrete will be maintained inside the surface casing to ensure that the pile is neither reduced in
cross-section nor indecent concrete remains at or below the final pile cut-off level.
It will also be ensured that base of the temporary casing always remains below the concrete top surface until concrete pouring is completed.

Project :

Procedure:-Pile Execution with Bentonite Slurry After the installation of the temporary casing, the drilling operation will continuously
proceed together with the mixing bentonite slurry. This will be mixed by shifting
carefully onto a stream of water directly or indirectly into the drilling hole. Directly,
after the polymer is applied, the auger or bucket is then reciprocated gently to distribute
and homogenize the bentonite. Indirectly, the bentonite is shifted onto a stream of water
an agitated mix tank. The water stream is the fanned over a sloping pan or across the
Auger blade or bucket use to facilitate lump-free mixing. Controls shall also be carried
out in the same situation intervals. The recommended viscosity is from 30 to 90 m
seconds and the PH value is from 9 to 12. Bentonite mixture:
2 of 3
Bentonite content: 50kg for 1.0 m³ of water (5 %)
Mixture density: 1.05 to 1.1 t /m³ Recycling of Bentonite:
The bentonite mixture is recycled, to maintain acceptable site conditions for
maneuvering and other activities
