6. PROCEDURE

1. a. Site Preparation

Clear the vegetation and debris from the proposed road alignment.
Mark the road alignment using marking paint.
Excavate the topsoil to a depth of 150 mm along the road alignment.

b. Subgrade Preparation

Compact the excavated subgrade using a roller.

Fill any depressions with additional soil and compact again.
Install a geotextile fabric on top of the subgrade to prevent mixing of the subgrade and the gravel layer.

c. Gravel Layer Installation

Spread the compacted gravel layer evenly over the subgrade to a depth of 150 mm.
Compact the gravel layer using a roller.
Repeat the process until the gravel layer reaches a final thickness of 300 mm.

d. Surface Preparation

Grade the surface of the gravel layer using a grader to provide a smooth and even surface.
Spray the surface with water to help settle the gravel.

e. Final Compaction

Use a roller to compact the surface of the gravel layer to achieve the required density.
Repeat the process until the required density is achieved.

f. Finishing

Install road markers at regular intervals to guide drivers and prevent accidents.
Install drainage ditches on either side of the road to prevent water from accumulating on the surface.
Install bollards or barriers to prevent vehicles from leaving the road.
