A LEARNING PLAN IN MEASURES OF POSITION

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of the one-hour period, the students should be able to:

1. determine the different measures of position of an ungrouped data

through a guessing game title “ The Position Puzzle”,
2. solved quartile, decile, and percentile values of an ungrouped data
through the activity titled “Position Prodigy Quiz Bowl”;
3. interpreted and applied the different measures of position in real-life
situations through creating problems in an activity titled “The Position
Problem-Posing”

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Most Essential Learning Competency:
Illustrate the following measures of position: quartiles, deciles, percentiles.

Time Frame:

60-minutes Period
III. TEACHING-LEARNING ACTIVITIES
Preliminaries (5-minutes)
 Routine (Prayer, Greeting, Classroom Management, Checking of Attendance)

EXPLORE (10 MINUTES)

1. The teacher introduces the activity “ POSITION PUZZLE” wherein students divided
into small groups and provide each group with a subset of the data values then
determine the measure of position (quartiles, deciles, and percentiles) for the given
data. Each group will take turns presenting a data value to the other groups without
revealing the value then other group will guess the position of that value. After each
guess, the presenting group will reveal the correct answer and explain the calculation
or reasoning behind it. Rotate the role of presenting group until all data values have
been covered.

“THE POSITION PUZZLE”

The list shows the scores of 20 students in their 15- item test.
10 15 6 9 7
8 12 5 6 10
8 10 11 7 13
11 14 14 9 9

Group 1 Group 2 Group 3

Quartile 3- 11.75 Decile 8- 12.8 Percentile 55- 10.55

Q3= k(n+1)/4 D8= k(n+1)/10 P55= k(n+1)/100

= 3(20+1)/4 = 8(20+1)/10 = 55(20+1)/100
= 3(21)/4 = 8(21)/10 = 55(21)/100
=63/4 = 168/10 = 1155/100
=15.75 th = 16.8 th = 11.55 th
Q3=11.75 D8=12.8 P55= 10.55

2. Introduction of the Topic

The teacher asks students the following:

 How do you find the activity?

 What did you observe about the activity?
 What words did you encounter from the activity?

After the students gave their perspective answer, the teacher formally introduces the topic
“Measures of Position” and propose the learning outcomes of the day.
