1. Purpose
American Petroleum Institute (API) standard 547, First Edition, June 2004 is adopted as SABIC
Engineering Standard for ‘General-purpose Form-wound Squirrel Cage Induction Motors— above
150 kW’. This standard shall be applied for motors as specified in Section ‘1.1: SCOPE’ of API 547
for IEC based motors above 150 kW.
2. General
2.1 Motors manufactured to this specification shall conform to API 547, First Edition, except as
modified by this specification, as set forth on the SES IEC-E06-X02-01, project specification
or by the purchase order.
2.2 This SES is for IEC based motors, manufactured in accordance with performance
requirement of API 547.
2.3 Motors shall be able to operate continuously at their nameplate rating in the environmental
conditions specified in IEC-E02-G01 Section 3.0, without damage or degradation of
operating characteristics.
2.4 Refer to SES IEC-E06-E01 for selection of standards for motor application.
2.5 Refer to SES G03-S01 for requirements on lubrication, shaft-sealing, control oil systems and
auxiliaries’.
2.6 Refer to SES G19-S01 for requirements on machinery protection systems.
2.7 Refer to SES S20-G01 for requirements on noise limits for plant equipment.
2.8 Decision or additional information required for paragraphs in API 547 indicated by a round
bullet (•) at the beginning of a paragraph is to be provided by the purchaser (Contractor or
affiliate). This information should be indicated on the datasheets IEC-E06-X02-02 (adopted

All the motor power ratings shall be based on a 50 °C ambient temperature at 1.0
service factor. When the power requirement of the driven equipment falls between two
standard motor ratings, the motor having the larger power rating shall be selected.
6.1.20 Spare parts and spare parts documentation shall be provided in accordance
with the Purchase Order. As a minimum, one set of spare parts shall be provided for
every motor rating/design purchased. When multiple motors of the same
rating/design are purchased, a complete set of spare parts may be supplied for every
two (2) motors. However, a separate price shall be included in the base quote for
startup and commissioning spare parts as follows:
(a) One (1) set of front and rear bearings.
(b) One (1) set of oil rings for each bearing.
(c) One (1) set of oil labyrinth seals (internal and external).
