1. Purpose
American Petroleum Institute (API) standard 547, First Edition, June 2004 is adopted as SABIC
Engineering Standard for ‘General-purpose Form-wound Squirrel Cage Induction Motors— above
150 kW’. This standard shall be applied for motors as specified in Section ‘1.1: SCOPE’ of API 547
for IEC based motors above 150 kW.

2. General
2.1 Motors manufactured to this specification shall conform to API 547, First Edition, except as
modified by this specification, as set forth on the SES IEC-E06-X02-01, project specification
or by the purchase order.
2.2 This SES is for IEC based motors, manufactured in accordance with performance
requirement of API 547.
2.3 Motors shall be able to operate continuously at their nameplate rating in the environmental
conditions specified in IEC-E02-G01 Section 3.0, without damage or degradation of
operating characteristics.
2.4 Refer to SES IEC-E06-E01 for selection of standards for motor application.
2.5 Refer to SES G03-S01 for requirements on lubrication, shaft-sealing, control oil systems and
auxiliaries’.
2.6 Refer to SES G19-S01 for requirements on machinery protection systems.
2.7 Refer to SES S20-G01 for requirements on noise limits for plant equipment.
2.8 Decision or additional information required for paragraphs in API 547 indicated by a round
bullet (•) at the beginning of a paragraph is to be provided by the purchaser (Contractor or
affiliate). This information should be indicated on the datasheets IEC-E06-X02-02 (adopted
from Appendix A of API 547); otherwise it should be stated in the quotation request or in the
order.

3. Addenda
The following section, subsection and paragraph numbers refer to API 547, First Edition.
Section 1 - General
1.4 Substitute the paragraph as follows:
Any conflict between this specification and other contract or procurement documents, unless
specifically indicated as an exception, shall be resolved at the discretion of SABIC.

2.2 Electrical Design
2.2.1 Rating and Voltage
2.2.1.2 Substitute the paragraph as follows:
Refer to SES IEC-E02-G01 Section 4.0 for Utilization Voltages.
Motor voltage for motors supplied as per this specification shall be 4160 V with the Bus
voltage as 4,160 V, 3 phase, 60 Hz. Other voltage requirements are subject to SABIC
approval. In general, motor ratings shall be selected to operate at the following voltage
levels:

Motor kW Motor Voltage Bus Voltage

150- 5200 4160 4,160 V, 3 phase, 60 Hz

2600 - Above 13,8 00 13,800 V, 3 phase, 60 Hz

All the motor power ratings shall be based on a 50 °C ambient temperature at 1.0
service factor. When the power requirement of the driven equipment falls between two
standard motor ratings, the motor having the larger power rating shall be selected.

2.4 MECHANICAL DESIGN

Add in the beginning before 2.4.1:
Unless otherwise specified, the type of mounting for standard machines shall be IM B3 (IM
1001), IM B5 (IM 3001), IM V1 (IM 3011), or IM V6 (IM 1031) in accordance with IEC 60034-
7.
The mechanical and thermal performance of the motor shall meet the requirements of
section 8 and 9 of IEC 60034-1.
2.4.2 Substitute the paragraph as follows:
Frame and Mounting Plates
Frame sizes shall be in accordance with IEC 60072-1 and IEC 60072-2.
Dimensions of foot-mounted machines and mounting flange dimensions shall be
in accordance with IEC 60072-1 and IEC 60072-2. Unless otherwise specified,
requirements for motor mounting shall be specified by the vendor with unit
responsibility.
2.4.8 Lubrication
Add:
When Antifriction bearings are allowed to be used according to 2.4.7.1.3, 2.4.7.1.5,
then they may be lubricated with grease. Grease-lubrication shall meet the conditions
of API 610, 6.11.4.
