Instruction: Choose one or more of the following prompts. Try to write roughly a page on each prompt
you select. Write your answer in the space provided.
Journal Prompt #1: Who Makes Art? Answer the following questions and support your discussion with
examples. You may include images to help you in your explanation.
I think, all of us can make art, all of us can express their feeling through it because all of us are
unique individuals.
2. Do you think artists have innate ability or acquired skill (or both)?
I think both because it is your nature to do things like that, it’s just that it is not that perfect, that
is why you should practice what is given unto you. Practice makes permanent.
Mask makers, bowl makers, and pottery makers were revered in African civilizations for their
practical skills in addressing the demands of the society in which they lived. During the Middle
Ages, painters in western countries were recognized for their abilities to create murals, such as
those that ornamented churches (decorative) and imparted biblical precepts. Artists are still
respected in the modern world for their ability to create decorative works of art, but there is
also the concept of art for art's sake, which attempts to elevate art above any practical or
didactic use.
