Who is Jesus Christ?

Many have disputed the existence of Jesus Christ, and few have truly understood what he came to do.
Roman records, from 2000 years ago, show that a man named Jesus Christ was crucified.
Here are the words recorded by Tacitus;
“Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at
the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus”
Though the Romans participated in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, they were not the instigators. The Jewish
leaders of the day called for the death of Jesus Christ because he said “I am the Son of God” John 10:36

Question 1. What does the Bible say about Jesus Christ’s mission, coming to earth?
Ans: Matthew 1: 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his
people from their sins.

Note: Christ came to save those who choose him as saviour from their sins.

Question 2. What is sin?

Ans: 1 John 3:4 “Sin is the transgression of the law”
Note: The law here referred to is the Ten Commandment law. See Exodus 20:1-17

Question 3. What is the problem with sin?

Ans: Isaiah 59: 2 “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid
his face from you, that he will not hear.”
Note: Sin separates us from God. If we want to have a relationship with God we must decide to stop
sinning and accept His offer of salvation.

Question 4. What will happen to me if I keep sinning?

Ans: Romans 6:23 “The wages of sin is death”
Note: This death is eternal death from which there is no resurrection to eternal life.

Question 5. What does the Bible say about our problem with sin?
Ans: Isaiah 53: 6 “ All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way;”
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the Glory of God”
Note: We have all fallen short of God’s standard. We have all chosen to sin, either by ignorance or by the
violation of our consciences. God says He placed our conscience in us, and has also put His laws in our
hearts, upon which our conscience is the arbiter or guardian of our choices.
All, even the child, that has come to age of reason, has a conscience and knows when they are doing
wrong. Examples are lying and stealing, these are forbidden by God’s law.
They are written in the mind by God. God tells us this in the book of Romans.
Romans 2: 15 “Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing
witness,”

Question 6. What else did Jesus Christ say about himself?

Ans: John 14:9 “Jesus saith unto him,…….. he that hath seen me hath seen the Father;”
Note: Jesus stated clearly that if you were to look upon him, you would see what God the Father is like, not
only in appearance, but in purpose and love towards man.

Question 7. What is the character of God?

Ans: Psalms 103:8 “The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.”
13 “Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.”
Psalms 86:15 “But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion”
Note: This is the character and purpose of God. He knows the pit, into which sin has dragged everyone of
us. When it says God has compassion it is not sympathy. Sympathy just acknowledges someone’s bad
situation, but does not mean we do anything to help. Compassion means we do something to help.

Question 8. What does the Bible say God did, to save and help us?
Ans: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth
in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Question 9. When the Bible says Jesus Christ is begotten, what does that mean?
Ans: The term “begotten” means to be born. The Greek word is “monogenes” which means “only
generated”. The term generated means to “beget” which is the act of procreating a child from the seed of
the father. This is confirmed in the genealogy of Jesus from Matthew 1:2 “Abraham begat Isaac”
Note: This Bible term, begotten, for Jesus Christ is used ten times and is the true declaration that Jesus
Christ is born from God.
1 John 5:1 “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that
begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.”

Question 10. If Jesus Christ was born from God when did this happen?
Ans: Proverbs 8:22 “The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.
23] I was “set up” from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.
24] When there were no depths, “I was brought forth;” when there were no fountains abounding with
water.
25] Before the mountains were settled, before the hills “was I brought forth:”
26] While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.”
Note: In this text we find two expressions. We’ll deal with the second one “brought Forth” first. In Hebrew
the word from which these words are translated by Strong’s Concordance, is “chuwl” meaning
“verb-- whirl, dance, writhe” “in pain, especially childbirth”. So here we have mentioned twice in
Proverbs that “I was” “brought forth”, birthed. The person speaking here is Jesus Christ the Son of God.
Now what many will say is that this is talking about “wisdom”. But in 1 Corinthians 1:1 we read;
“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and
sanctification, and redemption:”
So, Jesus Christ is the wisdom of God, therefore when Proverbs 8 refers to wisdom, in the context of the
chapter where it denotes the time of his being “brought forth” as being before the creation of the earth, it
is referring to Jesus Christ. Another important point we should consider is, that it was Jesus Christ who
inspired Solomon to write these words of Proverbs. Remember Solomon asked for wisdom from God, not
wealth.
Our second expression in verse 23 was “set up”. This expression in Hebrew is “nacak” meaning to pour out
or to pour as oil, as an offering. The thought here, is that Jesus Christ was poured out of the Father. He was
poured out of the bosom of the Father, from the heart of God. From the love of God. Jesus said “was in the
bosom of the Father” John 1:18

Question 11. Is there any other record of Christ being born of the Father?
Ans: In John 16, we have recorded the term “came forth from the Father” v.27, “came forth from God”
v.30 and in John 17:8 “I came out from thee” where Jesus is praying audibly to his Father in heaven.
All these terms are based in the Greek word “exerchomai” with the following meanings;
“to go or come forth of’
1. “With mention of the place out of which one goes”
As a metaphor; “to come forth from physically, arise from, to be born”
“To flow forth from the heart or mouth”
“to emanate”
Here we see quite clearly Christ was speaking of his birth from his Father. In the meaning of exerchomai we
find that Christ flowed forth from the heart of the Father. Jesus came from the bosom of the Father in an
act of love towards all of heaven.

Question What did Jesus receive from his Father at his birth?
Ans: 1. As any child he received the same substance as his Father.
2. He received the same life as his Father. John 5:26 “For a s the Father has life in himself, so has he
given to the Son to have life in himself.” Life original, unborrowed and underived that was in the
Father.
3. He received the same Spirit as the Father. John 3:34 “for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto
him”
4. The same name as his Father. Hebrews 1:4 “Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath
by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.” And in verse 8, But unto the Son he
saith Thy throne O God, is for ever and ever” So, the Father calls his Son God “a more excellent
name”.
5. He, as the Son born of the Father, also is divine. He has his own divinity, as now the Son of God by
birth, not creation.

Question 11. What did Jesus Christ say would happen if the truth was told about him?
Ans: John 12:32 “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.”
Note: Jesus said if he is lifted up to the people of the earth he will draw them to himself.
Jesus Christ is full of grace and truth. He lay down his life for mankind. Jesus is lifted up to you today.

Question 12. What did Jesus say about things written about him in the Bible?
Ans: Luke 24:27 “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the
scriptures the things concerning himself.”
2 Chronicles 20: 20 “Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall
ye prosper.”
John 5: 39 “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify
of me.”
Note: All scripture can carry a message about Jesus, he was the author of the word of God.

Question 14. Why is it important to believe in Jesus Christ?

Ans: Hebrews 5:9 “And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that
obey him;”
John17:3 “And this is life eternal, that they may know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ whom thou
has sent.”
Note: In this short paper we have made known to you that you must believe that Jesus Christ is the true,
born, Son of God.
In Christianity today, there is a false teaching, that Jesus Christ is God himself, and not a true Son. Eternal
life comes only from knowing and believing in the true Son of God. The danger for not believing Jesus
Christ is the born Son of God, is that any other Jesus, is not the Son of God and therefore cannot give
eternal life.
We pray that this study has brought you a deeper understanding of just who Jesus Christ is. May this
knowledge bring you closer to your Father in heaven, who loves you and wants you to be with Him
throughout eternity.
