Material Lab 7
Material Lab 7
OBJECTIVE:
APPARATUS:
Creep Tester.
Weights.
Stop watch.
INTRODUCTION:
Creep machines are most commonly used in experiments to determine how efficient and
stable a material is. The machine is used by students and companies to create a creep curve
on how much pressure and stress a material can handle. The machine is able to calculate
the stress rate, time and pressure.
Creep testing is conducted using a tensile specimen to which a constant stress is applied at
a constant temperature, often by the simple method of suspending weights from it. The test
is recorded on a graph of strain versus time.

CREEP CURVE:
PROCEDURE:
To apply a load, we add weights to a weight hanger and measure time and the creep. For
effect-of-temperature tests, the student freezes or heats a cool-pack and places it next to
the specimen. They then fit the transparent enclosure to preserve the temperature around
the specimen during the test.
CONCLUSION:
From this lab we conclude that the creep test has the objective of precisely measuring the
rate at which secondary or steady state creep occurs. Increasing the stress or temperature
has the effect of increasing the slope of the line ie the amount of deformation in a given
time increases.
COMMENTS:
In this lab we with the guidance of our respected teacher learned in a professional way to
how to measure the creep mechanism of a material using creep testor.
