What is a computer?
The term computer is used to describe a device made up of electronic and
Electro mechanical components. The computer itself cannot perform any task
And is referred to as hardware.
A computer system consists of three elements.

Hardware: The physical components which you can see, touch and feel in
the computer system are called hardware Eg monitor, keyboard, mouse
etc.
Software: Software is used to describe the instructions that tells the computer
how to perform a task. Software is categorized
1) System softwares (eg. operating systems, compilers, editors etc)
2) Application softwares (MS-word, excel, accounting packages etc)
People: People who operate the computer and also create computer software
instructions.

It is a free data recovery software from piriform, the

same team that gave us ccleaner and defragler.
It is simple and easy to use.
Capable of recovering files deleted from recycle bins,
memory cards and other portable device.
It also has a deep scan mode where your chances of
getting the data back is even better.
Regarding compatibility, it runs good upto windows
7 32-bit. Haven’t tested it with windows 8 yet.
It is also available as a portable version i.e you can
run it directly from the downloaded file which is
definitely an advantage!

It is also capable of recovering permanently deleted

Has a preview mode where you can view the
recoverable images and texts from your harddrives.
There is an option called as surface scan where you
can search for files from a corrupted or reformatted
partitions.
There is also a helpful wizard which can guide you
through the recovery processes.
It is compatible up to windows 7
3. Tokiwa Data Recovery
It Is the most easy to use data recovery tool

currently available.
It has a simple interface with a few but powerful
options.
A scan button to scan for recoverable files.
You can also search for a specific file by typing the
file name in the search box.
There is also a wipe button which can permanently
delete the recoverable files from any partition except
the drive where your OS is installed.
4. Free UnDelete

It is just another simple tool for data recovery.

Supports various file systems such as NTFS 1.0,
NTFS 2.0, FAT12, FAT16 and FAT32.
Available both in portable as well as installer
versions.
5. Avira UnErase Personal

Avira UnErase personal is a bit older than the other
tools listed here but still works good.
It supports file systems such as NTFS 1.0, NTFS 2.0,
FAT12, FAT16 and FAT32 like others.
It also supports dynamic disks, software and
hardware RAID, volume sets and stripe sets which is
useful for advanced users.
The interface is less graphical and consumes less
memory which is definitely good for low
configuration systems.
It is also available as portable version.

Burn a CD on win XP without using software
Burn a CD on Windows XP without using software---

Windows XP comes with a builtin CD-copy feature that not many people are aware of. Although almost
everyone has his/her favorite CD-copy software to stick with, it is still good to know about this CDR
feature from Windows XP. You will find it very useful when you come to another PC that doesn't have a
CD-copy software, and you can't just install your favorite software to it. With this feature, you can write
some data or MP3 files to a CD/DVD, or erase a re-writable CD/DVD.
1. Insert a Formated-ReWritable CD or a Recordable (CD-R) disc into the CD drive.

2. From Desktop, double-click on "My Computer".
3. Navigate to the files/folders you want to copy to CD. Select them and press "Ctrl-c" to copy.
4. Browse back to the CD-ROM, and press "Ctrl-V" to paste. The files/folders will show up as temporary
files/folders at this time.
5. On the left panel, select "Write these files to CD".
6. The window "CD Writing Wizard" appears with the default CD name. Change the CD name if you wish,
then click "Next".
7. The "CD Writing Wizard" starts to write files/folders to the CD.
8. Once the writing process is complete, the wizard will disappear and the CD-Rom will be ejected.

Logon wallpaper is the wallpaper or image
that windows xp shows on screen when
windows logs on (before it asks for username
& password). It’s usually set to the image-
logo of the brand (manufacturer) of our
computer (e.g. in Compaq laptops). Now we
can set it to our own image or any other image
(any bmp file) by following trick.

Open Start menu->Run type regedit and press

ok to open registry editor.(shows a tree like
structure of directories at left)
In that hierarchical structure in left, navigate to
registry entry
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel
\Desktop
In right side pane see a number of values
placed in a table format. Choose the value
named Wallpaper from there and double click
it. Now you see a box with value name as
Wallpaper and value data as Path to the
image file .There give the full path of the
image (bmp file) which you want to set as
logon wallpaper by deleting previous path and
writing path to your bmp file e.g. C:\WINDOWS
\lon.BMP (to set image lon.BMP file as log on
wall paper).
Also double click on Wallpaper Style and
change its value to 2 to get a stretched
wallpaper at logon.
Put that bmp file in windows directory for
better results.
If that is a jpeg file, convert to bmp file by
opening in Windows Image Viewer and save as
bmp.

Convert Web Page to PDF using Google Chrome !!!
Google Chrome to PDF conversion is inbuilt feature in Chrome browser. Once you convert webpage to
PDF you can keep it for offline browsing, easy to print and keep for future reference. You can save
webpage to html or any other format , but the PDF format is more easy to transfer and save compare to
any other format. The second advantage is that you can use this method in Windows, MAC, Linux or any OS
that supports Google Chrome browser.
Open the required webpage, click on right top corner wrench button.
Select print from the menu item. This will guide you the print menu screen.
The default selection would be your printer. Please click on Change button to select a different one.
Please select Save as PDF from the Local Destination.
Now make sure your destination changed to Save as PDF, click on Save button.
Provide the location to save the webpage. You are done.

Now you go to the location where you saved and open webpage.
Customize your tiles
Windows 8 tiles Make the most of your Windows Start screen tiles by adjusting the sizes, where they are
located, and what is listed.
Move any tile by clicking and dragging the tile. While moving a tile, if you need a larger view of the Start
screen move the tile towards the top or bottom of the screen to zoom out.
Use your mouse wheel to scroll left-to-right through your tiles.
Any Desktop shortcut or program can be pinned to the Start screen by right-clicking the icon and
choosing Pin to Start.
In the bottom right-hand corner of the start screen is a magnifying glass with tiles, click this icon to get a
zoomed out view of your Start screen. In this view, if you right-click on a group of tiles you'll be given the
option to name group, which can be useful if you have a group of related tiles (e.g. games). In this view,
you can also click and drag a group to organize your tile groups.
Create a new speed bump between tile groups by moving a tile to a speed bump.
Resize any User tile or Live tile by right-clicking the tile and choosing resize.
If there is a tile you want on your Taskbar, right-click the tile and choose Pin to taskbar.
Show admin applications on the Start screen by clicking Settings in Charms, click Settings, and change
the Show administrative tools from No to Yes.

In Internet Explorer 10, you can also pin any of your favorite web pages to your Start Screen.
Windows 8 keyboard shortcuts
Knowing at least some of the Windows 8 keyboard shortcuts will make your Windows 8 experience much
more enjoyable. Try to memorize these top Windows 8 shortcut keys.
Press the Windows key to open the Start screen or switch to the Desktop (if open).
Press the Windows key + D will open the Windows Desktop.
Press the Windows key + . to pin and unpin Windows apps on the side of the screen.
Press the Windows key + X to open the power user menu, which gives you access to many of the
features most power users would want (e.g. Device Manager and Command Prompt).
Press the Windows key + C to open the Charms.
Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings, which is the same Settings found in Charms.
Press and hold the Windows key + Tab to show open apps.
Press the Windows key + Print screen to create a screen shot, which is automatically saved into your My
Pictures folder.
Difference between Viruses, Trojans, Worms and Malware.
I. What is Malware?
The word Malware is short for malicious software, and is a
general term used to describe all of the viruses, worms,
spyware, and pretty much anything that is specifically
designed to cause harm to your PC or steal your
information.
II. Viruses --> Wreak Havoc On Your Files

The term computer virus is often used interchangeably
with malware, though the two don’t actually have the
same meaning. In the strictest sense, a virus is a program
that copies itself and infects a PC, spreading from one file
to another, and then from one PC to another when the files
are copied or shared.
Most viruses attach themselves to executable files, but
some can target a master boot record, autorun scripts, MS
Office macros, or even in some cases, arbitrary files. Many
of these viruses, like CIH, are designed to render your PC
completely inoperable, while others simply delete or
corrupt your files—the general point is that a virus is
designed to cause havoc and break stuff.
You can protect yourself from viruses by making certain
your antivirus application is always updated with the

latest definitions and avoiding suspicious looking files

coming through email or otherwise. Pay special attention
to the filename—if the file is supposed to be an mp3, and
the name ends in .mp3.exe, you’re dealing with a virus.
III. Spyware --> Steals Your Information

Spyware is any software installed on your PC that collects
your information without your knowledge, and sends that
information back to the creator so they can use your
personal information in some nefarious way. This could
include keylogging to learn your passwords, watching your
searching habits, changing out your browser home and
search pages, adding obnoxious browser toolbars, or just
stealing your passwords and credit card numbers.
Since spyware is primarily meant to make money at your
expense, it doesn’t usually kill your PC—in fact, many
people have spyware running without even realizing it, but
generally those that have one spyware application
installed also have a dozen more. Once you’ve got that
many pieces of software spying on you, your PC is going
to become slow.
What many people don’t realize about spyware is that not
every antivirus software is designed to catch spyware. You
should check with the vendor to make sure the application
you are using to protect you from malware is actually
checking for spyware as well. If you come across a PC that
is already heavily infected, run a combination of
MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware to clean it
thoroughly.
IV. Trojan Horses --> Install a Backdoor

Trojan horses are applications that look like they are doing
something innocuous, but secretly have malicious code
that does something else. In many cases, trojans will
create a backdoor that allows your PC to be remotely
controlled, either directly or as part of a botnet—a network
of computers also infected with a trojan or other malicious
software. The major difference between a virus and a trojan
is that trojans don’t replicate themselves—they must be
installed by an unwitting user.
Once your PC has been infected with the trojan, it can be
used for any number of nefarious purposes, like a denial of
service (DoS) attack against a web site, a proxy server for
concealing attacks, or even worse—for sending out
buckets of spam. Protection against trojans works the

same way as viruses—make sure that your antivirus

application is up to date, don’t open suspicious
attachments, and think long and hard before you try and
use a downloaded crack for Photoshop—that’s one of
malware authors’ favorite spots to hide a trojan.
V. Worms --> Infect Through the Network

Computer worms use the network to send copies of
themselves to other PCs, usually utilizing a security hole
to travel from one host to the next, often automatically
without user intervention. Because they can spread so
rapidly across a network, infecting every PC in their path,
they tend to be the most well-known type of malware,
although many users still mistakenly refer to them as
viruses.
Because worms often exploit a network vulnerability, they
are the one type of malware that can be partially prevented
by making sure your firewall is enabled and locked down.

1) Boot Sector Virus :- Boot sector viruses infect either the master
boot record of the hard disk or the floppy drive. The boot record
program responsible for the booting of operating system is replaced by the virus. The virus either copies the
master boot program to another part of the hard disk or overwrites it. They
infect a computer when it boots up or when it accesses the
infected floppy disk in the floppy drive. i.e. Once a system is
infected with a boot-sector virus, any non-write-protected disk
accessed by this system will become infected.
Examples of boot- sector viruses are Michelangelo and Stoned.

2) File or Program Viruses:- Some files/programs, when executed,

load the virus in the memory and perform predefined functions to
infect the system. They infect program files with extensions
like .EXE, .COM, .BIN, .DRV and .SYS. Some common file viruses are Sunday, Cascade.
3) Multipartite Viruses:- A multipartite virus is a computer

virus that infects multiple different target platforms, and
remains recursively infective in each target. It attempts to attack
both the boot sector and the executable, or programs, files at
the same time. When the virus attaches to the boot sector, it will
in turn affect the system’s files, and when the virus attaches to
the files, it will in turn infect the boot sector.
This type of virus can re-infect a system over and over again if all
parts of the virus are not eradicated. Ghost ball was the first
multipartite virus, discovered byFridrik Skulason in October 1989.
Other examples are Invader, Flip etc.
4) Stealth Viruses:-
These viruses are stealthy in nature means it

uses various methods for hiding themselves to avoid detection.
They sometimes remove themselves from the memory
temporarily to avoid detection by antivirus. They are somewhat
difficult to detect. When an antivirus program tries to detect
the virus, the stealth virus feeds the antivirus program a clean
image of the file or boot sector.
5) Polymorphic Viruses:-
Polymorphic viruses have the ability to mutate implying that
they change the viral code known as the signature each time they
spread or infect. Thus an antivirus program which is scanning for
specific virus codes unable to detect it's presense.
6) Macro Viruses:-
A macro virus
is a computer virus that "infects" a Microsoft Word or similar
application and causes a sequence of actions to be performed
automatically when the application is started or
something else triggers it. Macro viruses tend to be surprising but
relatively harmless. A macro virus is often spread as an e-mail virus. Well-known examples are Concept Virus and
Melissa Worm.

Step 1: Click Start, then type regedt32 in the search box.

Step 2: Double-click on HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE, then SYSTEM, Current Control Set, Control.
Step 3: Click on Keyboard Layout, then in the Registry Editor menu, click on Edit, New,Binary Value.

Step 4: Name the new entry as Scan code Map.

Step 5: Double-click on the new entry and type in
00000000000000000300000000005BE000005CE000000000 as the value data, then click OK. You must
type it in manually; copying and pasting will not work. It might be easier to look at it in pairs, as three
rows of 16 digits:

Step 6: Close the Registry Editor and restart your computer.
Enable the Windows key

Step 1: Click Start, then type regedt32 in the search box.
Step 2: Double-click on HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE, then SYSTEM, Current Control Set, Control.
Step 3: Click on Keyboard Layout and right-click on Scan code Map. Click Delete then click yes.

Install more than one operating system (multiboot)
Windows 7
If your computer's hard disk has adequate free disk space, you can install a newer version of Windows on
a separate partition and keep the earlier version of Windows on your computer. This is called a multiboot
or dual-boot configuration. Whenever you start your computer, you can then choose which version of
Windows to run. For more information, see Can I have more than one operating system on my computer
(multiboot)?
Multibooting requires separate partitions on your computer's hard disk for each operating system. To
create and format a partition, see Create and format a hard disk partition.
Example of a multiboot disk configuration
Warning
You must install the older operating system first, and then install the more recent operating system. If
you don't (for example, if you install Windows Vista on a computer already running Windows 7), you can
render your system inoperable. This can happen because earlier versions of Windows don't recognize the
startup files used in more recent versions of Windows and can overwrite them.
To install Windows on a separate partition or hard disk
Before installing Windows, be sure to disable all antivirus software and back up your files to an external
hard disk, a CD, a DVD, a USB flash drive, or a network folder. Also, find your 25-character Windows
product key. You can find it on the installation disc holder inside the Windows package—or in a
confirmation e-mail if you purchased and downloaded Windows 7 online. For detailed instructions about
installing Windows 7, see Installing and reinstalling Windows 7.
Turn on your computer so that your current version of Windows starts normally, and then do one of the

following:
If you downloaded Windows 7, browse to the installation file you downloaded, and then double-click it
(often identified as an Application file under the Type column).
If you have a Windows 7 installation disc, insert the disc into your computer. Setup should start
automatically. If it doesn't, click the Start button, click Computer, double-click your DVD drive to open the
Windows 7 installation disc, and then double-click setup.exe.
If you've downloaded Windows 7 onto a USB flash drive, insert the drive into your computer. Setup
should start automatically. If it doesn't, click the Start button, clickComputer, double-click the drive, and
then double-click setup.exe.
On the Install Windows menu, click Install now.
On the Get important updates for installation page, we recommend getting the latest updates to help
ensure a successful installation and to help protect your computer against security threats. You must be
connected to the Internet to receive installation updates. This page might not appear if your computer is
not connected to the Internet.
On the Please read the license terms page, if you accept the license terms, click I accept the license
terms.
On the Which type of installation do you want? page, click Custom.
On the Where do you want to install Windows? page, select the partition or disk where you want to
install the new Windows operating system.
Be sure to install Windows on a different partition from the one where the earlier version of Windows is
installed.
Click Next to begin the installation. You might see a compatibility report.

Boot up with DOS and delete the sam.exe and sam.log files from
Windows\system32\config in yourhard drive. Now when you boot up in NT the password on your built-in

Reboot the system.
While booting (before Windows starts loading), get into the BIOS configuration screen by hitting
something like F1, F2, Delete or Escape. Hotkey instructions are generally provided on the screen.
Go to the section that contains your boot devices.
With your USB drive plugged in, the USB drive should be listed. If it isn’t, your system might not support
booting from USB. Assuming that it is supported (as is the case with virtually all modern hardware),
promote your USB drive to the primary boot device.
Exit from the BIOS configuration, saving all changes.
If you’re completely new to BIOS configuration, BIOS for Beginners over at Tom’s Hardware might be a
good primer. Be aware though, that you can seriously screw up your system by providing incorrect
settings!
Step 3: Booting and setup windows 7 / Windows 8 from USB drive:
Assuming that you properly configured your BIOS and your USB drive supports booting, Windows 7 / 8
setup should now load. Depending on the speed of your USB drive, this may take a while.

If it isn’t working, then double-check the following before making a scene:
Is your BIOS properly configured for booting from the USB device? (Is the USB device listed and does it
have top priority?)
Have you correctly prepared the USB drive in step one? (Restart the procedure.)
Does your USB drive properly support being booted from? (Try another one!)

Pen drive infected virus
If your Pen Drive is infected with any of the following viruses:

Why is the 250GB hard disk having less than 233 GB?
All Hard Disk manufacturer way of counting

space is different from the way a software
count a space.
This means to a Hard Disk Manufacturer, 1GB
is 1000 MB, 1 MB is 1000 KB and so on.
Software or computer language recognize a
space in terms of power of 2 say 21, 22,23 etc.
hence a KB is 210 Bytes which is 1024 Bytes.
Lets do a little math:From a Manufacturer a
250 GB harddisk is 250 x 1000 x 1000 x 1000
=250000000000 Bytes From the Computer
Language point of view a 250000000000 Bytes
is:250000000000/(1024*1024*1024)=232.83
GB
Now you’ll see why your 250GB harddisk has
only less than 232.83 GBspace in total. Well if
you go with higher space like 500 GB and so
on the space missing is increasing....

Most easy way to fix size=0kb and free=0kb error of any pendrive or memory card. (100% working)
1. First connect your pendrive or memory card

3. Click on disk management
4. Right click on removiable drive x(x is your

5. Click on new simple volumn

Now your pendrive or memory is ready.
How to Make Nameless Folder
Before attempting this trick, try to make a

folder with no name and you will fail to do so.

select Rename.
Erase the text showing "New Folder".
Now keep Pressing Alt (i.e alter key) and type

function keys.
After that leave alt key and Press enter.
Done you just created nameless folder.
