Parent’s Guide to G-Suite (Google) Tools and Google Classroom

What are the G-Suite Tools for education?


G-Suite for education is a collection of productivity and collaboration tools developed by Google for

education. With these tools, teachers can create learning opportunities for their students, provide

instant feedback while encouraging collaboration, creativity and critical thinking.


Teachers may for example use Google Classroom to share assignments, homework, newsletter with
students and parents.

Getting Started with G-Suite


Your child was provided with a G-Suite account and password that is unique to them. You will receive
information on how to retrieve their student number and password from your teacher. If you are still
unsure how to obtain this private information, please contact your child’s school.

How your child accesses any of the G-Suite Tools will differ depending on the device used.
On a mobile device, you will have to first find and download all the Google Apps from either the
Google Play Store (for Android devices) or the App Store (for Apple® iPhone and iPad).

These include: Google Drive, Google Classroom, Google Docs, Google Slides , Google Form, Google

Sheets.

1. Install your apps


2. Click on it (For example, click on Google Classroom App)

On a computer (PC or MAC) or Chrome OS devices (chromebooks, chrome tablets), you don’t
have to install anything.

1. Open a web browser such as Google Chrome


2. Type www.airforceschoolcbe.com in your web
address bar

3.Click on GSuite Icon

Note: If you have used a personal


Google account before on your device you
will already be signed in. You have to sign
out of your personal account and sign in
your school account.
Click on your icon
Click Sign out

In the new window,


Click on Use another account

4. Type in your child’s Google “Email” address


which is in the format:-

YourChildFirstNameAdmissionNumber
@airforceschoolcbe.com

For example:- If student name is Kanika Shree


Nair with admission number 0101, her email
id will be kanika0101@gmail.com

And click Next .

(Note that this is a Google Account)

5. Type in your child’s password

And click Next .

NOTE: Your child’s email id and default password will


be shared in the class whatsapp. In your own interest
please change it.
Please enter your school google id

7. Now you’ll see that you are signed in to your


Child’s G-Suite for Education account

8. Click on the 9 squares icon (called a Waffle)


in the top right hand corner to see the G-Suite
products

To access a specific tool, click on the waffle ,


then click on the icon you would like to use.

Getting Started with Google Classroom


To access Google Classroom:
1. Click on the waffle,
2. Scroll down to find the Google Classroom

App

3. Click on it

If you cannot find the app, simple type:


classroom.google.com in your web browser

Note: On a mobile device, simply click on the Google


Classroom App.

If this is the first time you use Google Classroom:

You may see a welcome message.


Read it and click Accept.

Click I’m A Student

Click Continue.

To access a class:

● If your child has already been invited or has


already joined a class, you will see it.
Simply click on it to enter the class.

● If you child’s teacher sent you a class code to join


a class:
1. Click on + (join class)
2. Enter the class code given by the teacher
3. Click join

Don’t forget to remind your child to log out of their


Google Account once they are done with their school
work!

Click on your name icon, then click on Sign out.

Google Meet | Etiquette for Students


PLEASE NOTE: Only teachers can create a Google Meet. Students
can join a Meet session with a Meet code, or “nickname” or by clicking
the Meet link in Google Classroom via desktop or Meet icon in Google
Classroom via mobile.

Preparing for a Meet Session


▪ Be sure you have a fully charged device with a microphone and
camera enabled.
▪ Choose a quiet space with a comfortable chair and as little
background noise as possible so you can focus on the session.
▪ If there is background noise in your area, use a headset that
has a
microphone (e.g. Apple earphones, headset).

▪ Test your microphone before the session in case you use it to


participate during the meeting.

Meet Etiquette
▪ Check in 10 minutes before the start time to make sure
everything is working.
▪ Be prepared with physical and digital documents open before
you join.
▪ As soon as you enter the call, mute your microphone.

▪ Mute your microphone whenever you are not speaking to


reduce background noise.

▪ Adjust your camera so you feel comfortable.

▪ Use the microphone and chat as directed by your teacher. Be


an active participant, listening intently. Use the chat and the
microphone to participate and share as instructed.

Acceptable Use Guidelines


Digital citizenship is important as you engage in ongoing learning. Be
respectful of yourself, others, and the online space in which you
learn. Respect Yourself

▪ Listen to and follow instructions.

▪ Participate when and how your teacher directs you to.

Respect Others

▪ Listen to and respect the contributions of others.

▪ Share information that is useful and supportive. ▪ Use


appropriate, supportive language.
▪ Always ask for permission to share or record others’ work or
images.
Respect Online Space

▪ Use technology tools and resources for the learning purposes


they are meant for.
▪ Report issues to your teacher immediately.

Google Meet Etiquette for Students

Using Chat
▪ Use the Chat stream for questions that require an immediate
response.
▪ Ask your teacher how to “put up your hand” to ask a question
during the Meet. Your teacher will tell you what word or
phrase to use in the chat to let them know you wish to
participate.
