Color therapy is a type of holistic healing that uses the visible

spectrum of light and color to affect a person’s mood and physical or

mental health. Each color falls into a specific frequency and vibration,
which many believe contribute to specific properties that can be used
to affect the energy and frequencies within our bodies.
While it is common knowledge that light enters through our eyes, it’s
important to note that light can also enter through our skin. Given the
unique frequencies and vibrations of various colors, people believe
that certain colors entering the body can activate hormones causing
chemical reactions within the body, then influencing emotion and
enabling the body to heal.
It has been known for ages of time that
color plays a major role in setting up a
particular mood or state of mind. Color
does affect one's feelings, moods, and
emotions.
Colour therapy helps to balance the
frequencies' of malfunctioning cells
and bounce back to our natural state of
radiant well being.

•A pioneer in the field of color, Isaac Newton in 1672, published his
first, controversial paper on color, and forty years later, his work
'Opticks'. Newton passed a beam of sunlight through a prism. When
the light came out of the prism is was not white but was of seven
different colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.
The spreading into rays was called dispersion by Newton and he
called the different colored rays the spectrum. He learnt that when
the light rays were passed again through a prism the rays turned
back into white light. If only one ray was passed through the prism it
would come out the same color as it went in. Newton concluded
that white light was made up of seven different colored rays.
We are now using color in very positive ways again. Businesses are
accepting that their employees may work better given a certain
environment and hospitals and prisons are also becoming aware of the
effect that the color around them can have on patients and prisoners
respectively. Paint companies have introduced new color cards with
the therapeutic aspects of color in mind. Cosmetic companies too have
'color therapy' ranges included in their products. Color has a great deal
to offer us and can be found all around us in nature.
We need to expand our awareness of color so that we can truly benefit
from nature's gifts so that 'color' becomes a way of life, not just a
therapy.

Combine orange and yellow in your wardrobe. Not only will you feel
more sunny, but you’ll project that image onto others, potentially
helping to lift their mood.
When You Need to Be Calm
Going into a stressful situation? Try a combination of pastel green and
blue colors. These work well in rooms in the home where you want to
relax after a stressful day at work, or somewhere within eyesight
when you have to confront a stressful situation. Green is particularly
helpful for promoting calm in health-oriented spaces, like hospitals,
clinics, and counseling offices.

When You Need to Focus

If you work at home or have your own office, you may want to be
sure you have blue in the décor. It not only calms and stimulates
creativity, but it can encourage focus, helping to limit distractions so
you can get your work done.

repressions and encourages freeing expression. If you’re in a
relationship and it’s time to open up, use orange to give you a
