COMIC SHEPHERD

(The shepherds are sleeping in the field, at that moment three angels appear)

ANGELS: Praise the Lord.

SHEPHERDS (frightened): They are aliens!
AIKO (ANGEL) (ANGRY): No! We are angels.
LILIA (ANGEL): We came to bring you good news.
LUIS (SHEPHERD): They're going to raise our salaries!
Ma. ISABEL (ANGEL): No, we came to tell you that the Son of God is about to be born.

(All the shepherds become very happy).

BRENDA (SHEPHERD): We want to go see him.

AIKO (ANGEL): They only have to follow the star of Bethlehem.
CÉSAR (PASTOR): Then let's go.

(Everyone leaves the stage and the little devils enter).

CHRISLEN (DEVIL): Did you hear what the angels said?

NOELIA (DEVIL): Gossipy angels, they had to tell the shepherds.
RAÚL (DIABLO): I like them so much.
NOELIA (DEVIL): What if we prevent the shepherds from reaching Bethlehem?
CHRISLEN (DIABLO): Yes! The boss is going to be very happy.
RAUL (DIABLO): I know how to stop them!
CHRISLEN AND NOELIA: How?
RAUL (DEVIL): Let's dress up as shepherds.
NOELIA (DIABLO): Yes, and so we deceive them.

(The little devils leave and St. Joseph and the Virgin appear walking very slowly).

MARIA (Tired): How much longer, José?

JOSE: No, no, we are almost there.
MARY (grabbing St. Joseph): Wait, I got a craving! I'm craving tamales with chocolate chips.
JOSE: Well, I'll bring them to you.
MARIA (grabs it again): No, no, better some Sabritas with lecherita.

JOSE: Yes, yes, here I come.

MARY: No, no, better a churrumais with chili and a two-liter coke.

(The two leave the scene and the shepherds enter along with the little devils in disguise).
SHEPHERDS: (Singing) Shepherds to Bethlehem, run in haste! They have broken shoes from so
much running!
NOELIA (DIABLO): Oh, we can't go with broken shoes. Let's go to the MALL to buy new shoes!
SHEPHERDS: Yes!
BRENDA (PASTOR): Let's ask the little angels for permission.
NOELIA (DIABLO): No, because they won't let us. Look, let's go and buy some clothes for the child
and while we're at it we'll look at things for ourselves.
LEONELA (SHEPHERD): I want a dress!
TIFFANY (SHEPHERD): And me some bracelets.
NOELIA8DIABLO): Then let's go quickly!

(The shepherds go out and stay with the little devils. The little devils carry boxes with bottles).

JESUS M (DEVIL): Look at these old ladies, how they like to spend money.
CÉSAR (PASTOR): They get distracted by nothing.
CHRISLEN (DIABLO): (Pulls out a bottle) How about toasting to the little boy?
ESTEBAN (PASTOR): (grabs the bottle) I like the idea compadre!

(Everyone grabs the bottles and starts drinking).

ALL: Cheers!

(The shepherds leave and the three angels arrive)

Ma. ISABEL (ANGEL): Strange, the shepherds should already be here.

AIKO (ANGEL): Are they lost?
LILIA (ANGEL): I don't think so, they just had to follow the star.
AIKO (ANGEL): Let's go look for them.
Ma. ISABEL (ANGEL): Look, here they come!

(The shepherds return drinking the bottles and making a racket. The shepherdesses come to show
each other the things they bought)

Ma. ISABEL (ANGEL): (Very angry) Silence!

LILIA (ANGEL): You had to be the demons!
AIKO (ANGEL): They cheated the shepherds!
NOELIA (DIABLO): Yes, so what?
Ma. ISABEL (ANGEL): You pastors should be ashamed of yourselves for letting yourselves be fooled
so easily!
SHEPHERDS: (Very sorry) Excuse us!
CHRISLEN (DEVIL): It's too late, now we're going to take these shepherds away forever.
(The shepherds panic as the little devils grab them)

ANGELS: Of course not!

RAUL (DIABLO): Then let's fight!

(The shepherds watch in fear. The angels and the little devils are facing each other as if about to
fight)

ANGELS/DIABLITES: Rock, paper, scissors!

ANGELS: We won!
ANGELS/DIABLITES: Rock, paper, scissors!
DIABLITOS: We won!
ANGELS/DIABLITES: Rock, paper, scissors!
ANGELS: We won again!
LILIA (ANGEL): We beat them.
AIKO (ANGEL): Now go away!

(The little devils leave the scene and the shepherds shout happily)

TIFFANY (SHEPHERD): Now we are going to see the child.

ALL: Let's go!

(Angels and shepherds leave. On the stage, St. Joseph and the Virgin carrying her child. Shepherds
and angels arrive with them. They arrange themselves in two rows while singing "Feliz Navidad".
The little devils also enter the stage and all of them -including the Virgin and St. Joseph- hold
hands and bow to the audience).
