RESOURCE MANUAL DATE 14 MAY 2014

MODIFICATION OF EC PS TO FIT OLDER NODE CHASSIS

Background The most recent EC power supply 51196653-200 is the current replacement for
the existing LCN power supply 51400712-100 and 51196654-100 replaced
51400712-200. The Enhanced Acme power supply (51195066) was the
previous replacement for the existing LCN power supply 51400712. Both the EC
and Acme are enhanced to provide power for peripheral devices through the J8,
J9, and J10 connectors on the back of newer node chassis. To accomplish this,
the edge connector has been made wider to allow addition traces for the
peripheral power. Only a few of the older node chassis will not allow this wider
edge connector to plug into the backplane socket. See Figure 4
In the past, the Acme PS was supplied with instructions on how to modify the
edge connector so it could be used in the older chassis. Since this modification
requires cutting traces and a circuit board, this modification can not be done in
the field. Modified power supplies are available from the depot. See the table
below for part numbers. See PD 15 A07 (C) for details on EC PS replacement
kits when a modified one is not needed.

Action If an older style LCN power supply is being replaced with the EC power supply
and the correct EC power cord has been installed but the PS still will not plug in,
a modified EC PS must be ordered. Note: A PS that is modified can not be
used to replace an Acme or EC unit that supplies peripheral power, for
example, WDA History Module or newer stations with cartridge drives.

Part Numbers This does not cover the Dual Node chassis supply. Also see PD 15 A07 (C).

Notes:  Part number for just the EC power supply, older part number 51196653-100.
 This number supplied one PS 51196653-100/200 or 51196654-100 with the
connector modification instructions and a new label. The Depot now stocks the
modified PS 51201436-300 & -400. No PS's can be modified in the field.
The 51201436-100 or -200 part number is not available anymore, the
51201436-300 or -400 must be ordered if a modified PS is required.
 This PS replacement kit, contains one 51196653-100/200 or 51196654-100
that has the dc connector modified to fit the older chassis and is labeled
modified to 51201436. A new AC power cord is also provided with this kit.
51201436-100 & -200 are not available from Honeywell.

MODIFICATION OF EC PS TO FIT OLDER NODE CHASSIS, Continued

Edge Connector Figure 1 shows the edge connector on an older style PS. All the older
chassis have a mating connector that is the same width as this edge
connector. A very few of the first chassis had a connector that was closed
on the ends that prevented a wider PS edge connector from plugging in.

Figure 2 shows the wider edge connector of the Enhanced (Acme) PS. The
additional connections furnish peripheral power.

Figure 3 shows the modified Enhanced PS. The peripheral power portion of
the edge connector has been cut off so this PS can be inserted into a older
chassis

CAUTION: Once a power supply is modified it cannot furnish peripheral power.

This socket will only allow the edge connector

with 8 fingers to fit because of the solid end wall.
Only a few of these were shipped in 1985.

extend beyond the end of the socket.
