Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 9
Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 9
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. Illustrates the concept of ellipse;
b. Graph ellipse; and
c. Relate ellipse into real life situation.
III. PROCEDURES
a. Preparatory Activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Classroom Management
5. Review/Drill: Let the students plot a coordinates in the Cartesian plane and let them identify
what is the shape of the graph
b. Developmental Activities
1. Motivation
The student will sing a song entitled “Akong Kalo”.
Lyrics:
Akong kalo lingin
Lingin akong kalo
Kung ang kalo dili lingin
Dili akong kalo.
2. Lesson Proper (Discussion)
Discuss the concept of Ellipse and its steps in graphing.
Ellipse - A curved line forming a closed loop, where the sum of the distances
from two points to every point on the line is constant. It is formed
when there is an intersection of a cone with an inclined plane.
x² y ²
An ellipse can be graph using the standard form of + =1 for
a² b²
x² y ²
the horizontal major axis and + =1for the vertical major axis.
b² a²
Horizontal Major Axis Vertical Major Axis
y y
b b
-a a x -a a x
-b -b
Where a>b. y
x² y ²
Ex1. Graph + =1 (2,0)
9 4
a² = 9 b² = 4 c² = 9-4
(-3,0) F F (3,0)
a=3 b=2 c² = 5 x
c = √ 5 or 2.2
(-2,0)
3. Application
Now I want you to work by pair.
Direction: In a ½ sheet of paper graph the given standard form of an ellipse.
x² y ²
1. + =1

4. Generalization
Let the students recall the definition of ellipse, how it is form, and how to graph Ellipse.
5. Evaluation
Now I want you to get another ½ sheet of paper, we will have a quiz.
Direction: In a ½ sheet of paper graph the given standard form of an ellipse.
x² y ²
1. + =1

IV. ASSIGNMENT
Surf the internet.
Direction: In a ½ sheet of paper graph the given standard form of an ellipse.
