LITERARY EVENTS

GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. All written pieces must be an ORIGINAL CREATION. Plagiarized written pieces SHALL be
ground for DISQUALIFICATION.
2. In written events, NO attachment allowed.
3. If the participants exceed the time allotted for the contest, two points per minute shall
be deducted in their overall score.

SPOKEN WORD POETRY:


1. Each CABIN shall have one (1) representative.
2. The entry must illustrate, interpret, and emphasize the struggles of a college student
and MUST NOT CONTAIN any malicious and offensive content.
3. The spoken word poetry must be an original piece composed by a member of the
respective CABIN.
4. On November 9, 2023, each contender must submit a copy of their work to the
committee.
5. The contestant is given three (3) to five (5) minutes to deliver their output.
6. Sounds, instrumental or background music is ALLOWED to complement the delivery.
7. The contestants should wear proper semi-formal attire.

DECLAMATION (ENGLISH):

3. Props and costumes are open as long as they conform to the University’s policy.

EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEAKING VIA OBJECT ANALYSIS


1. Each CABIN shall have one (1) representative.
2. The participants shall be given one (1) minute to analyze the given object before the
delivery.
3. Only one (1) object will be analyzed for all the contestants.
4. Contestants are given a maximum of three (3) minutes to speak.
5. Participants shall wear semi-formal attire.

5. Participants shall wear semi-formal attire.

RADIO DRAMA
1. Each CABIN shall have five (5) representatives. The participants are in charge of the script
writing, technical and voice acting.
2. The SEAITE Literary Committee will create a group chat for the participants and assigned
literary heads per team. The theme will be sent to the GROUP CHAT of the SEAITE Week Literary
Events.
3. The language to be used is Filipino. The use of the English language should only be limited
to expressions and humor purposes.
4. The radio drama shall be performed live.
5. The performance should not exceed seven (7) minutes.
6. Vulgar and scandalous acts are not allowed.

TV BROADCASTING
1. Each CABIN shall have five (5) to fifteen (15) representatives.
2. Each entry must contain one (1) field news report, one (1) national news report, one (1)
development communication and one (1) showbiz report.
3. Each team must provide a thumbnail in the format of 9:16 JPEG file.
4. The language to be used for the broadcast must be in Filipino.
5. Final project should be in .MP4 format.
6. The SEAITE Literary Committee will create a group chat for the participants and assigned
literary heads per team. Other details will be sent to the GROUP CHAT of the SEAITE Week
Literary Events.

ESSAY WRITING:

including articles.

PHOTO ESSAY WRITING


1. Each CABIN shall have one (1) representative per medium.
2. The photo must revolve on the official theme of the event.
3. Photos should only be taken in the vicinity of the University.
4. Photo-manipulation or editing is NOT ALLOWED.
5. The participants must use a DSLR or a Mirrorless camera.
6. The SEAITE Literary Committee will create a group chat for the participants and assigned
literary heads per team. Other details will be sent to the GROUP CHAT of the SEAITE Week
Literary Events.

DEBATE
1. Debaters are not allowed to use props. Props shall be understood to include visual aids.
2. During the debate proper, debaters are only allowed to bring with them hardcopies
(maximum of 10 pages, letter size) of their research paper and cue cards. The use of
electronic gadgets is prohibited, like, but not limited to cellphones, tablets, and laptops.
It shall be emphasized further that even the use of gadgets for the purpose of self-time
keeping is still prohibited.
3. The debate team not showing at the venue until after the preparation time (30 minutes)
shall have an automatic disqualification.
4. Each debater shall have seven (7) minutes to make his/her substantive speech. The
timekeeper for the debate shall give an audible signal (a ring of bell) at end of the first
minute and at the beginning of the sixth minute. During the time in between these two
signals, points of information (POI) may be offered by the debaters of the other team. A
double ring at the end of the seventh minute shall be given, after which the speaker
should conclude his/her speech after 15 seconds. A continuous ring shall be signaled
after seven minutes and fifteen seconds. Reply speeches are four (4) minutes long. No
points of information are allowed during reply speeches. At the end of the third minute,
the timekeeper shall ring the bell once to let the reply speaker know he/she has only a
minute left for the reply speech. The timekeeper shall ring the bell twice after the fourth
minute. For every speaker, every 15-second extension shall have a corresponding
deduction on their total score for the particular round.
5. At all times, the clock shall be available for viewing for the debaters, adjudicators and
the audience.
6. The clock shall be started when the speaker starts his/her speech.
7. The clock should not, under any circumstances, be stopped until the debater has
finished, even if it exceeded the allowable speech time.
8. Official coaches and adjudicators cannot be timekeepers of the debate round.
9. Debate Flow: The three speakers are allocated seven (7) minutes to deliver their
speeches in the following order: Prime Minister, Leader of the opposition, Deputy Prime
Minister, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Government Whip, Opposition whip,
Opposition Reply, Government Reply.
10. The reply speeches are four-minute summary speeches, which can be made by either
the first or second speaker of the house, except the third (Whip).
11. Points of Information: During the constructive speeches, Points of Information (POI) may
be raised by the opposing side after the first minute up to the sixth minute. During reply
speeches, no POI may be raised. POIs may be refused or accepted by the speaker. If
accepted, the POI should be made clearly and succinctly, taking a maximum of fifteen
seconds.It is likewise stressed that points of information shall be raised in an interval of
fifteen seconds in order not to disrupt the constructive speech being delivered by the
current speaker.

79-80 Heavy relevant contribution, quite an impressive speech
81-83 Amazing, inspirational, barely any mistakes.

12. The scores will be based on the score range provided in the criteria. The speaker who
gets the highest score will be awarded as the best speaker for the round. The individual
scores of the speakers will be added to get the team’s total score. The team with a
higher total score will be the better debating team.

QUIZ BEE
1. Each CABIN shall have two (2) teams for students and one (1) team for instructors with
three (3) participants per team.
2. 1/8 slate board and chalk shall be provided to each team.
3. The questions will be divided into three rounds: the easy, average, and difficult round.
4. Each round is composed of 10 questions.
5. Questions from the easy round shall weigh one (1) point each while three (3) points each
for the average round and five (5) points each for the difficult round.
6. Time limit will be given after each question is read. It will be announced by the quiz
master before each round.
7. When the time limit expires, the participants will show their answers to the
host/audience. Failure to do so will mean the answer is not recognized, therefore will
gain no point.
8. Only a member of the team has the right to raise queries or protest but should be done
before the next question will be read. After the next question was read, no protest will
be entertained.
9. The scores from the easy, average, and difficult round will be added to get the total
score as the basis for the proclamation of the winning team.
10. Questions will come from but not limited to the following areas: General Information, USL
Trivia, Relations and KKP Trivia, CICM History and Trivia, Science & Technology,
Mathematics, Current events and World Affairs, Health & Medicine, Literature, History,
Politics, Government & Law, Social Issues, Entertainment, Sports, Environmental Issues,
Bible History, and Bible Trivia and Facts.

PAGSASALIN
1. Each Cabin shall have one (1) representative.
2. Each round, the participant will be given 60 minutes to translate the piece.
3. It will be divided into 2 (two) rounds:
- Easy Round: English to Tagalog
- Difficult Round: English to Ilocano/Ybanag/Itawes
4. The piece to be translated will be given on the day of the event.
