Diode can control the flow of the current in a circuit. It acts as a one-way switch for current.

As a
Mechanical Engineering student, I think that one example of a mechanical device that operates or
functions the same way as a diode is the Lock-out of an air suspension of a mountain bike. Lock-out
controls the play/bounce of the suspension, when the suspension is turned-on the suspension will
play/bounce, and if it is turned-off the suspension won’t play or it will not function.

The function of the rectifier diode is to convert alternating current to direct current and it allows current
in just on direction. Based on my idea, one example that can operate and function the same as a rectifier
diode is the Dynamo Motor which converts mechanical energy to electrical energy. Example of this is if
you attach the constantly rotating gear to the armature of dynamo motor and connect the two wires
from the terminal of dynamo to the bulb, it produces electricity to light the bulb.
