Technological
Mention at least 3 STEEP areas A number of renewable energy technologies,
including wind power, waste to energy, and solar
PV, are already economically viable in the United
Arab Emirates, with solar PV possibly competitive
with gas costs as low as USD 4.5/MBtu. The financial
basis for exceeding the UAE's present power sector
targets through faster and larger deployment is
evident.

Political
The ability of government agencies to conduct
complete, comparative assessments of energy
prices and act on these through regulation and/or
tendering will be the most important enabling
factor for renewable energy in the UAE by 2030. The
governing structure of the Dubai Emirate and the
establishment of the federal energy policy taskforce
in the UAE are notable local examples.

trend. Enforcing a set of "Green Building Regulations" for
private-sector projects would save energy and resources
while also improving public welfare and health. These
programs encourage the development and
commercialization of technology in the domains of
desalination, water utilization, renewable energy, and
energy efficiency.
Negative
Despite the findings of the REmap Case, the UAE faces
five key barriers to the utilization of less expensive
renewable energy sources: Concerns about the need for
baseload power, desalination, which has traditionally
been linked to power generation, comparative energy
cost awareness among stakeholders, subsidized fossil
fuel pricing, which primarily slows consumer-driven
distributed generation, and, most importantly,
disaggregated energy decision-making structures that
may not allow economically optimal decisions for an
emirate or the nation are just a few of the issues that
must be addressed. These are the current barriers to the
shift to renewable energy.

Future

Positive
The positive impact of sustainable energy in UAE would
enable it to produce 75% of its energy needs from clean
sources by 2050, it will become a global center for clean
energy and a green economy. It would reduce the
carbon footprint of power generation by 70% by 2050
and increase the amount of renewable energy in the
energy mix from 25% to 50%, saving AED 700 billion.
Furthermore, it intends to increase consumer and
company efficiency by 40%, reducing the effects of
climate change both in the UAE and globally.
Negative
Global investment in renewable energy is increasing and
is not expected to slow down in the next decades. The
disadvantage of using renewable energy is that it
generally requires more land than fossil fuel production,
and infrastructure typically destroys or seriously
damages valuable wildlife habitat. In the long run, it may
have a variety of adverse consequences on wildlife,
including behavioral changes and direct death.

What trends did you find in this

article? Name and describe each of Development of Green Economy through
these trends. Sustainable Energy Production
This study analyzes that green economy is built
around the transition from fossil fuels to renewable
energy. The global scale-up of energy sources (fossil
fuels or renewables) will determine whether we can
avoid irreversible climate change.

Viewpoint of Green Economy

This document identifies two perspectives on the
green economy: "A green economy improves human
well-being and social equity while significantly
reducing environmental risks and ecological
scarcity," according to the first point of view. Green
economies are resource-efficient, low-carbon, and
socially inclusive.
Second, "the so-called "green economy" is just
another facet of capitalism's current financial phase,
which also employs old and new mechanisms, such
as increased public-private debt, hyperstimulation of
consumption, concentration of ownership of new
technologies, carbon and biodiversity markets, land
grabbing, increased foreign ownership of land, and
public-private partnerships, among others."

plan will enhance environmental quality in a
number of ways, including decreased carbon
dioxide emissions, enhanced waste
management, wastewater treatment and reuse,
increasing use of electric and fuel-efficient
vehicles, and the cultivation of native plant
species.

Economic: Increased economic stability, the

emergence of new industries and businesses, the
growth of specialized labor markets, and the
emergence of new employment prospects in the
fields of energy efficiency and renewable energy
are all benefits to the economy and the market.

Negative

Lack of public awareness and limitations of

technical and professional skills to implement
such renewable technologies are the current
barriers to make this possible.

Future
Positive

As the cost of pushing novel technologies to

meet the renewable energy production and CO2
emission targets is affordable, and in future, it is
even anticipated to be less expensive than the
cost of pursuing the base scenario. Additionally,
the twin objectives of addressing climate change
and energy security would be accomplished.
Negative

Although renewable energy sources produce

relatively low levels of GHG emissions and
conventional air pollution, manufacturing and
transporting them will produce some emissions
and pollutants.
