GUIDELINES FOR SUMMER PROJECTS

Introduction
Summer projects have advanced to become a requisite for a successful career in the 21 st
century. These projects provide students with a toolkit for future success, by building upon
their current interests and strengths through academic study, sports, music, and other co-
curricular activities. Not only will they develop their current skill set, but they will also have
the opportunity to venture into new fields and take on novel challenges. Students will gain
soft skills such as collaboration, leadership, and independent thinking. These are highly
sought-after qualities and will be looked on favourably when they step out of the school
system for higher education and even sharpen their employability skills.

These projects will ensure that the students benefit from all of this whilst thoroughly enjoying
themselves. Moreover, it is known that students are engaged in school and studies when
learning is personal. Personalized project-based learning takes students' interests, strengths,
challenges, goals, and more into consideration when planning learning experiences over the
course of a session.

The School Education Department, West Bengal (SED) has planned to design summer projects
for all students from class 5 to 12. These projects will be determined according to the interests
and level of students. Moreover, the Department and other stakeholders have conceptualized
these projects keeping in mind the school syllabus so that students get a more hands-on
approach to concepts and there is knowledge deepening.

• Students are encouraged to step out into the world outside school to gain more
confidence, and employability skills
