Folclore Americano
American folklore is very rich, as is the culture of the United States. In addition
to the great influence that American movies and music have on the world, American
folklore is also well known and revered in many countries. One of the most important
folklore manifestations in the United States, and which is present all over the world,
is the celebration of Halloween. North American folklore has many stories and
legends. Let’s now get to know the main manifestations of folklore in the United
States:
Vamos
conhecer agora as principais manifestações do folclore dos Estados Unidos:
Witches
Witch is the name given to a woman who is supposed to have knowledge of the
occult powers of nature, enchantments and magic. For centuries, witches have been
associated with negative stereotypes, persecuted and punished for their beliefs and
practices. The very origin of the name “witch” derives from this persecution: brucia,
an Italian expression that means “to burn”, from the verb bruciare (“to burn”).
They were also described as extremely bad women, with cannibalistic, libidinous
habits, devoid of scruples or morals. Black magic appears as the main activity of
witches, which they would use to defeat their enemies or simply to harm people. The
pointed hat, the black cat, the cauldron and the flying broom are other elements that
reinforce the stereotype of the Satanist sorceress.
Around the 13th century, with the first Inquisition, the Catholic Church recognized
the existence of witches and relentlessly persecuted them. The women, most of whom
were suspected of practicing witchcraft by the inquisitors, were arrested, tortured and
forced to incriminate themselves. Finally, they were murdered, often burned at the
stake.
Bruxas
Durante séculos, as bruxas
A própria origem do nome "bruxa" deriva dessa perseguição: brucia,
PAUL BUNYAN - THE GIANT LUMBERJACK OF THE UNITED STATES
Legend has it that Paul Bunyan was born in the city of Maine, in the United
States, on February 12, 1834. As soon as he was born, it became clear that he was not
an ordinary human being. Even as a baby, his size and strength were evident. When
Paul was born he was so big that it took five storks to deliver him to his family.
Legend has it that, as a baby, Paul destroyed several hectares of forest by rolling
while he slept and only woke up after receiving shots from British navy cannons for
seven hours straight. everywhere he went and helped him in many of his feats across
the continent.
According to the stories told, Paul Bunyan created the Grand Canyon, dug the St.
Lawrence River, took the whales of the Great Lakes region to sea, cut down all the
trees in North Dakota to create farmland, among other feats.
Maria Sangrenta
Unidos do século XX.
JACKLOPE
The Jackalope or Lebrílope, in folklore, is said to be a cross between a
jackrabbit (hare) and an antelope (hence the name) that would live in California and
is usually portrayed as a rabbit with antlers. Some believe that the jackalope stories
were inspired by sightings of rabbits infected with shope papillomavirus, which
causes horn-like growths to grow in various places on the rabbit's head and body.
However, creatures such as the griffin and the chimera perhaps suggest that the
concept of a hybrid animal occurs in many cultures. Originally, two brothers in the
1930's came up with the concept of a stuffed bunny with horns to be marketed at a
local fair; to appear convincing, they wrote a short story that detailed the day the
animal carcass was found and even made a low-quality montage in photoshop. It's up
to you to believe these little creatures exist.
JACKALOPE
MOTHMAN
The Mothman was a mysterious winged creature seen by many people in the state
of West Virginia. In the surrounding town of Point Pleasant from 1966 to 1967,
several people reported seeing a large, human-sized, winged creature with glowing
red eyes. Some people believe that the Mothman only appears before catastrophic
events, such as a bridge collapse that occurred in 1967 after the Mothman was
sighted.
Some people believe mothmen to be alien or supernatural. Others believe that the
reported sightings were simply people mistaking a more common animal such as an
owl, heron or sand crane for the crypt creature. Either way, the legend of the
Mothman has captivated people since it was first reported, and sightings continue to
this day.

Leprechaun is Ireland's famous green leprechaun and one of the main symbols of
the country. For comparison, the Leprechaun is as famous a character on the Emerald
Island as Saci Pererê is in Brazil. But with a gigantic age difference. According to
legend, if you come across the Leprechaun, don't forget to hold him and make three

crisis and gold shortages, due to rising market prices, may have forced many
leprechauns to emigrate in recent years.
BIGFOOT – PÉ-GRANDE
* Somente desfile e demonstração

intrigando moradores locais.
