In 2010, AOAC developed a process by which a community of method developers and users can establish the
minimum performance requirements for methods before a method is, or a class of methods are, evaluated
for First Action adoption. These minimum performance requirements are collectively known as Standard

Method Performance Requirements (SMPRs ).

An SMPR is a voluntary, consensus standard developed by stakeholders in a highly controlled process that
ensures that users, research organizations, government departments, and consumers work together to
create a standard that meets the demands of the user community and technology. The SMPR process is
SM
integrated into the new AOAC O cial Methods evaluation model in which expert review panels have the
authority to adopt methods that meet SMPRs. More information about the SMPR process can be found in
Appendix F.

Since 2010, AOAC has adopted numerous SMPRs for a variety of analytes and matrixes, which have led to the
approval of new and modern methods. SMPRs are organized in this section by stakeholder panel.
