that the possibility for getting an electrical shock is present.

Note Unless stated otherwise, all equipment referred to within this

document are to be supplied by yard/customer.

Note The guidelines for installation presented here must be regarded as

a base for detailed plans prepared by the installation shipyard.
These plans must include drawings, instructions and procedures
specific to the ship in which the equipment is to be installed. These
drawings must be approved by the local maritime classification
society.

Note Unless stated otherwise, all installation work described in this

document is to be performed by yard/customer personnel.
It is the responsibility of the yard/customer to assure that their
installation personnel are sufficiently qualified, and that proper
caution is taken to avoid injuries or damage to life, health,
environment, equipment and property.

3 INSTALLATION

3.1 General information

This chapter presents the procedures and drawings for installation
of the Master Gyrocompasses.
The Gyrocompass System comprises a compass housing complete
with base plate assembly, master board and control and display
unit, a gyrosphere container, a gyrosphere and an installation and
replacement kit.

3.2 Handling
The Gyrocompasses are contained in a shockproof box, which is
packed in a Transport container.
This Transport container is completely suitable for transport by air,
sea, rail and road.
Caution The Gyrosphere is always to be transported in its original
Transport container. Do not throw or drop the transport
container. The container is to be transported in an upright
position only.

6 1001316/C
Installation Manual

Until installation, the shockproof box containing the gyrosphere is

to be stored in its original Transport container and is to be carried
by hand directly to the place of installation.
Caution The shockproof box containing the gyrosphere is only to be
transported by hand, and is to be handled by extreme care.

3.3 Mechanical installation

3.3.1 Gyrocompass Housing
1 Attach the Compass housing is to a level surface e.g. a floor
or console by means of six M10 bolts or welding studs (to be
supplied by yard/customer). It is essential that the installation
place has even ground. At the place of location of the
compass, proper ventilation must be ensured and sufficient
space provided for the housing to be opened and maintenance
work to be carried out. The amount of space required, the
attachment points and the position of the cable inlets are
shown in the dimension drawing attached in section 4 of this
document.
Be aware of magnetic clearance minimum distances listed on
the Kongsberg drawing number 1010204 page 2.
2 Install the gyrocompass housing in the horizontal plane,
preferably in line with the vessel’s longitudinal axis. It may
however be installed at any angle with respect to the vessel’s
longitudinal axis.
Alignment error (i.e. the angle between the compass’ and the
vessel’s longitudinal axis) is corrected electronically by setting the
alignment error correction value in the service set-up.
3
Note If the Gyrocompass is mounted with an offset from
the Vessel’s longitude axis, this angle should be
given Kongsberg Maritime before commissioning.
There are no specific prescriptions to the foundation stiffness,
but it has to be a fixed, even ground like vessel’s deck.
4 Prepare a welded grounding bolt on the side of the
Gyrocompass.

3.3.2 Gyrosphere
Gyrosphere installation is only to be carried out by personnel
especially authorised by the manufacturer. This procedure is
therefore not a part of this manual.

3.4 Electrical installation

3.4.1 The Connection Diagram
For electrical installation of the equipment, refer to the Cable List
and Cable Details documents for the actual project.
Cable termination and earthing details is described in the Earthing,
Screening and Power Supply Principles document (Kongsberg
document number 848-161012).

3.4.2 Connecting the Ship’s Cables

All ship’s cables are connected at the Terminal board of the Master
gyro. For Master gyro terminal board-layout, refer to Figure 1.
1 Insert the ship’s cables through the inlets at the sides of the
Compass housing.
2 Remove the outer cable covers, draw back the cable shields
and fasten the cables with clamps or cable bands to the
threaded studs. For details refer to Kongsberg drawing
number 1010204.
3 Remove the terminal strips from their sockets and connect the
individual wires. After wiring, fasten the terminal strips to the
sockets with their securing screws.
4 Keep all wires, running inside the housing, as short as
possible. Avoid leading the wires from one side of the
housing to the other.
5 Connect the Gyrocompass to the ships ground by clamping a
braided copper wire to one of the threaded studs at the cage
inlets. Connect this braided copper wire to the welded
grounding bolt on the side of the Gyrocompass.

1 INTRODUCTION
This document describes the installation of the Switch-over unit.
The Switch-over unit is supplied as a standalone unit and is an
optional accessory to the Navigat X Mk1 and Navigat SR 2100
Gyro compass system. The Switch-over unit connects the in- and
outputs of the currently selected heading reference to the peripheral
equipment, such as heading repeaters, autopilots radars etc.
Note The Switch-over unit will be hardwired to operate in one particular
operating mode. Always consult the installation specific connection
diagrams and documentation to determine how the unit is operated
in a given installation.

1 Decide the location of the Switch-over unit.

2 Prepare mounting arrangement for the Switch-over unit in the
bulkhead according to the installation drawing, 507943.
3 Place the Switch-over unit in its position.
4 Use bolts, washers and nuts and fasten the Switch-over unit
to the bulkhead.
5 Prepare a welded grounding bolt on the side/underneath the
Switch-over unit.

3.3 Electrical installation

For electrical installation of the Switch-over unit, refer to the Cable
List and Cable Details documents for the actual project.

1 INTRODUCTION
This document describes the installation of the Course and Rudder
Angle Recorder, NAVIPRINT.
The Course and Rudder Angle Recorder, NAVIPRINT supplies the
user with printed recordings of the vessel’s heading and rudder
angle, and may also print a selection of additional data.

WARNING The equipment includes high voltage (115/230V) which means

that the possibility for getting an electrical shock is present.

Kongsberg Maritime AS accepts no responsibility for any damage

or injury to the system, ship or personnel caused by drawings,
instructions or procedures not prepared by Kongsberg Maritime.

This document describes the installation of the Universal Digital
Repeater, bulkhead/desk mounted. The housing is water tight.
The Universal Digital Repeater receives information from a serial
interface which is displayed in the form of a digital display. The
information displayed may be: heading, course to steer, speed, turn
rate, rudder angle and depth.
The Universal Digital Repeater may also convert information
received into a different protocol and send it to other used
appliances through a serial interface.

Note The guidelines for installation presented here must be regarded as

a base for detailed plans prepared by the installation shipyard.
These plans must include drawings, instructions and procedures
