Exercise 2

1) Your vessel is steering a course of 025°T at 15 knots. The following

observations were made of an approaching vessel detected by radar, viz.

Time of Observation Bearing Distance

20:00 103° T 9.0M
20:10 103° T 8.0M
20:20 103° T 7.0M

A: Compile a target report for events at 20h20.

B: What action will you take?

2) Your vessel is steering a course of 318°G at 12 knots. The following

observations were made of an approaching vessel detected by radar, viz.

Time of Observation Bearing Distance

10:00 090° G 8.0M
10:09 092° G 6.0M
10:18 094° G 4.0M

If the Gyro error is known to be 2 degrees low:

A: Compile a target report for events at 10h18
B: What action is your vessel required to take in this situation?

3) Your vessel is steering a course of 270° compass at 10 knots. The following

observations were made of an approaching vessel detected by radar, viz.

Time of Observation Bearing Distance

14:30 205° Rel 10.0M
14:36 204.5° Rel 9.4M
14:42 204° Rel 8.8M

Given that Deviation is 1° East, and Variation is 4° East:

A: Compile a target report for events at 14:42.
