Title: Globalization at a crossroads wth COVID-19

Author: Metin Basbay

Q1: Based on the article, is globalization a process, a condition, or an idealogy?

Globalization is characterized as a “process” based on the article that I have read. It is

defined as a complex and dynamic mechanism that links distant localities, shapes local
events based on global occurrences, and creates interdependence among countries.
The challenges and vulnerabilities that globalization has shown are also highlighted in
the article, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. With that in mind, the
disruptions caused by the pandemic showcase the extent to which globalization has
become a crucial factor in shaping economic, political, and social interactions on a
global scale. In addition, the article also highlights how the interdependence between
nations and the reliance on the global economy have rendered the system prone to
vulnerability. To sum it up, this article described globalization as a process because it
doesn't delve deeply into the philosophical or ideological aspects of globalization, but
rather focuses on dits practical implications and challenges.

Q2: On whose perspective is the definition of globalization anchored (Political scientist,

economists, or culture and communications experts? Give 2 reasons to support your
choice.?

The article that I chose is the perspective of a political scientist. The geopolitical and
economic effects of globalization, international cooperation's difficulties, and the
interdependence of nations are the main topics that are being focused in this article.
The article highlights how global events and dynamics affect political interactions and
power relations among nations, although it also briefly discusses economic issues like
trade and production.
Learnings
 I have learned that globalization generates abundant prospects for nearly all
individuals and that heightened competition is beneficial, as it enhances the
effectiveness of production entities.
 I have learned that globalization is not a new phenomenon as it’s marked by
worldwide ecological shifts, an extensively interconnected global economy, and
various other global patterns take place at the global level.
 Globalization is essential, and we should willingly and proactively engage in this
progression.

Unclear
 Individuals who deny the existence of globalization in our contemporary world.
 Why is it necessary to regulate or oppose globalization to achieve sustainable
development?
 Why does globalization bring advantages to investors, but only provide meager
compensation to workers, leading to a significant revolt from civil society?
