METHODOLOGY

Research Design

This study will be conducted using the quasi-experimental type of research

employing the two groups pretest-posttest design. This study is quantitative in nature and the

information and data will be gathered will be measured, analyzed and interpreted.

Population and Locale of the Study

The target respondents of this study will be the 32 Grade 11 Technical Vocational

Livelihood (TVL) students of Abra High School. They will be divided into two groups. To

determine the respondents, all learners listed in odd numbers goes to be first group, while

those listed in even numbers is the second. Each group will be assigned as control and

experimental groups respectively. Group A is going to be the experimental group and Group

B will function the controlled group. Group A (Experimental Group) and Group B

(Controlled Group) will be consisting of equal number students on each group.

Data Gathering Instrument


The researcher is going to utilize a self-formulated questionnaire incorporated with

pre-test and post-test activities and be distributed to the respondents. Pretest and post-test

activities will be administered.


Procedure
The actual respondents will be the 32 Grade 11 Technical Vocational Livelihood

(TVL) students of Abra High School. They will be undergoing series of reading

comprehension exercises integrated in their English lessons.

A pre-test activity is conducted before the evaluation of reading skills. Afterwhich,

varied reading strategies will be implemented. After the implementation of the reading

strategies, post-test activity and observation are to be done. The scores within the pre-test are

going to be compared with the scores within the post-test to find out the effectiveness of the

strategies.

Statistical Treatment
The level of academic performance in reading of learners will be determined using

mean and four-point Likert. T-test is going to be used to determine the difference of the

academic performance in reading of the students before and after the implementation of the

reading strategy. The data which will be gathered in this study will come from the pretest and

the post test.

Ethical Issues
In the conduct of the study, the researcher must consider the confidentiality and

anonymity of the process connected with the rights of beneficence and respect for dignity.

The right of the participants to withdraw during the conduct of the study will be considered.

Prior to the conduct of the study, the researcher will ask permission from the parents to allow

their children to participate in the study.


In order to advocate ethical standards in the research process, the researcher is going

to submit the research proposal. Upon approval, the researcher will ask permission from the

principal and level coordinator of the school to conduct the research to the respondents.

Before the commencement of the research undertaking, the participants will be

oriented as to the research procedures and methods involved in the research process. The data

that are to be gathered in the study are to be treated with utmost anonymity and

confidentiality.
