Statement of the Problem

This study aims to increase academic performance of Grade 11 Technical Vocational

Livelihood (TVL) students of Abra High School through reading strategies. Specifically, it seeks

answers to the following questions:

1. What is the performance of the Grade 11 Technical Vocational Livelihood (TVL)

students along the following areas of reading:

a. Noting Details,

b. Predicting Outcomes, and

c. Making Inferences?

2. Is there a significant difference in performance in reading of the respondents after the

implementation of the different reading strategies?

Significance of the Study

This study is significant to the learners because it is equipped with varied reading

approaches and strategies might be used to increase their reading comprehension levels in a

classroom setting. Moreover, this is also significant to all teachers, especially English and

Language teachers to improve their craft of innovating and thinking of ways to improve reading

ability of students. This will also serve as plan of action for educational institutions to improve

the curriculum in order to keep the students highly interested can be provided by the data

indicating the extent of understanding level, which can also help in comparing the

reading performance of learners. Similarly, this study will be regarded as vital in improving the

reading ability of learners in order to gain better chances for their learning and academic

outcomes.
